Hi

I come from an interesting family... Also a kindof embarressed and secretive family, but I have managed to learn some things about myself from various family members - still it is only hearsay! (Or herasy some of my family members think!)

Apparently I was born and seemed both male and female... Doctors decided to make me male. Subsequently I am a transgender person - gender identity disorder.

Apparently I also have a transgender uncle... errr Aunt, Who I have never met. Now I am transgender I am a bit of a family embaressment.

I have also heard rumors of one other mixed sex person in the family.

Interestingly I also have a heredatry brain tumor, and I have spoken to another woman who also has this type of hereditry tumor and told me that her daughter was altered to coform to a female at birth.

i don't know much about the varying intersex conditions, and have tried to find my childhood medical records however they can't be released for me. I have been told by a doctor that to know of any intersex condition I may have could affect my decision to change gender identity and that it is not to be known by that individual what the condition is, if their is any.

So I am confused. I suspect something might be up. I was wondering if anyone could suggest something I might find interesting to read in relation to myself - I know noone would want to suggest a diagnosis on a forum such as this.

Things I do know that are perhaps related ....

I am XY

I went through a precocious puberty

I have a faint and unusual scar on my scrotum - going from my perenium frontwards

And I am a woman even though it doesn't look or sound like it if you were to talk to me - I appear androgenous almost

I have a tumor on the balance nerve going into my brain - unusual growth of the cells that wrap around nerves - ahhh schwann cells. A schwannoma they call it. I have a sister (unknown to me) who also has this type of tumor.

I would welcome any dialogue or advice. You can contact me - amy at sounddesign dot co dot nz

Thanks

Amy
