Mayo Clinic

I read this was regarded as one of the best in the US. Does anyone have any experience of being a patient here or have any information? It has such a good reputation, would anyone recommend going there? I would imagine the treatment there would be excellent but at a price.

Hi, Marc. The last time I visited the Mayo Clinic (their Minnesota campus) was several years ago, but I have had only positive experiences there. Because of my intersex condition, I saw an endocrinologist there for many years while I was growing up. Their endocrinology department is still considered the best in the country, if you are looking for that specialty. As you know, many of their other departments are top-notch also.
One of the things I like best about Mayo is that they are sincerely patient centered. I can almost guarantee that you will be treated with kindness,
compassion and respect - and that they will actually listen to your concerns and answer your questions.
I have only one warning. Mayo is a teaching clinic/hospital, so you will likely be seen by a group of residents, as well as the attending physician. I know some people feel a bit like a guinea pig in such situations.

I have had a lot of other medical complications besides endro/intersex stuff, and have been going to Mayo in Minnesota for 17 years. They are absolutely amazing up there. Nothing bad to say, ever.

I've never been lucky enough,

To be treated there. But I have been referred there many times for both of my diseases. And once I'm approved for Medicare (in one year) in addition to Medicade (which is all I have now) I'll finally be able to get treatment their. Which deeply I'm looking forward to.

My mom used to be a nurse at Mayo. Its quality of care has probably improved, now that she's retired.
