My name is Kristin, I am a pre-op mtf who found out a month ago that my karyotype is 46,XX. There is apparently no presence of Y material and repeated tests show no mutation or deletions. This forces me to ask WHY then is there a problem with my genitalia? If I am genetically female then why is it that the exterior of my body reflect this?
Any how, hello.

Well first of al i would like to say hello, and welcome to BodieslikeOurs.
2nd, there are many possibilities, A very common one is CAH, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. I would advise looking at the CAH threads, There are some very good links in some of the threads, Sparkling Dreams, and Aimee tend to post alot of em. There are also other conditions that could be contributing to your Body's physique, you really need to Talk with your Doctors. Ask them for further testing, As you didnt mention, what kind of Gonads are present, I want to inform you that amongst true hermaphrodites, people with both testes and ovaries, or ovotestes, 90% are genetically XX, 9% XY/XO, 1% XX/XY or some other unique combination of chimeric mosaicism. It is known for a genetically XX person to have testes and male phenotype, it is very rare, but it is possible. What sort of Karyptyping was performed, there are some of us who's genetics vary from one part of the body to others, Chimeric, I happen to be one of em. Testing can get expensive, Have your doctors at least looked at your Total and Free Testoserone levels. Those can at least give you a simple reason for the male phenotype, Cortisol stimulation test, can tell if you have CAH, another most likely possibility. There are many possibilities, lots of testing, labs need to be drawn, to figure out the reasons why?
Best advice i can give you is ask your doctors, and keep asking questions until you understand what they are saying, Visit the CAH threads, lots of good links and advice.
Best of luck too you. Stop on by again.
