How is one diagnosed with AIS? (This is for someone born male.)

Don't do anything before you've talked to someone who can tell AIS from the 'similar conditions'. There are many other intersex conditions and it is easy to confuse some of them with AIS.

And please read the info in the first link I gave: detection rate >95% in CAIS, <50% in PAIS and unknown in MAIS.
