Next week is National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week. Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illness is one of the event's major sponsors. Throughout next week, there will be really great speakers (including yours truly). If you go to this link: http://www.invisibleillnessconference.com/ and click on schedule of events, you'll see the schedule. Over the week-end, the instructions for how to listen on the web will be posted. There will be 20 different speakers on issues like dealing with stress, job seeking for the chronically ill, a guide to caring for aging parents, support groups -- and the list of speakers is extraordinary. I hope that you will visit the website and review the schedule of events and perhaps listen in. My speech is on Wednesday the 10th at noon EST/9 am PT. It's on why chronic illness is a civil rights issue -- or at least has to be treated as such if we are ever to get the rights to which we are entitled as human beings. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane." That's why raising awareness of the issues related to invisible chronic illness is so critical.
