Hi,

I am currently in sociology class called Medicine and Society, and we have to conduct a "social anatomy" of a medical issue. I choose to do a social anatomy on the experience of being intersex. My people are uninformed about what it means to be intersexed, as many people I've talked to think that all intersex individuals are hermaphrodites/have ambiguous genitalia. Through my project, I am trying to look at the social perception of DSD versus the reality. Also, I'm interested in doctor-patient interactions with patients and parents. I have already interviewed a doctor, but I would love to hear from someone about their experiences. We can conduct the interview by email. Basically, I am trying to just look at society's perception of DSD vs. an individuals perception of DSD in their life. And possibly hoping to find a parent of an intersex individual who would be willing to share his/her experiences with doctors, other parents, family and more. If you would be willing to do this, that would be greatly appreciated. I would love to get the interviews done before December (my paper is due Dec 2nd), and I know that it's the holiday period getting started, so it's okay if you would only be available to answer a few questions. Thank you so much!
