Dear Sunshine :)

i wanted to answer your question but felt that it would be best to move it here rather than listen to 'posers postulate on that which they know nothing about and present as fact..... very irritating. In any event, the next post wish be my response to the questions. <<<<<

Hi Maria,

I know you wrote about people with CAH being on the shorter side.

It is documented in medical studies about people with CAH and our growth plates fusing early and thus being on the shorter side for adults.

Can you go over what causes that again?

Also, I know you wrote about people with Turners being shorter and I was wondering what is the cause behind this? I didn't read that you had written about any other conditions concerning height.

I read about a study concerning CAH that the small amount of women with CAH that want to trans to male were found to have SVCAH rather than SWCAH.

>>> ok. the answer is a bit more involved than you think because first i have to explain what causes "normal" growth. Of necessity the answer to that question will be on the simplistic side, though i will elaborate if you like.

Ehem:

until puberty, the pituitary gland secretes a hormone creatively called "human growth hormone". Once puberty (andrenarche) begins, the secretion of that hormone slows to a trickle and sex hormones take over many of its previous functions... like muscle and bone growth.

In XX and XY-CAH's, the switch is rather drastic. More androgens are put out than the body will use for any purpose, and the left over gets aromatized to estrone... which i'm told is what's directly responsible for there closure. Since XX'ers make pleanty of estrone directly too, it is seen most drastically of all in them. <<<

Also, I know you wrote about people with Turners being shorter and I was wondering what is the cause behind this?

>>> there pituitary switches over from GH to making LH and FSH (like every one else) but they don't have functioning ovaries to be stimulated. This means there is actually some hope for height with them because there plates have yet to close. <<<

I didn't read that you had written about any other conditions concerning height.

>>> i forget which thread it was. i'm sure some 'poser interupted a perfectly good topic with BS about how they have "a rare form of CAH... that somehow made them over 6' tall"... when even in the case of those forms, a person still winds up short IE... a 3-beta or 17alpha XY (if they lived) CAH male will be ambiguous... but they will still be SHORT. transexual 'poser Gina Wilson over @<hidden> has been successfully passing herself off as one of us due to the profound ignorance of CAH by those that dwell there. <<<

I read about a study concerning CAH that the small amount of women with CAH that want to trans to male were found to have SVCAH rather than SWCAH.

>>> Would you be kind enough to post that study? i had read something to that effect, but was more facinated by the fact that it was those low on the praeder scale or LOCAH's <<<

I await, with great anticipation, your latest edict.

Here is my take, on height, as it relates to the general tone.

One can be, small in stature and yet be very large, as in big of heart or great in word and deed. One can also be small, in every way within, regardless of height. I believe the later, should be of greatest concern to you, at this time.

Height in any animal can be affected by a number of factors:

1) Growth hormone: A lack thereof simply does not stimulate long bone growth.

2) Sex Hormones: Not enough and the physeal plates don't close, causing above average length. Too much and they close early, making the long bones shorter.

3) Trauma: Too much early activity can increase inflammation in the physeal plates and cause premature closure.

4) Idiopathic: This is the final catch all department which includes simple genetics (your mom and dad) and all the other reasons unknown. It would be nice if EVERYTHING in medicine could be explained, but alas, this is not the case.

(BTW, I am truly interested in this thread. I remain confused why any reference to "posers" was made a couple of posts up. What ever one's opinions on that subject may be, it is simply not germane to this topic.)

>>> cool! and thank you for your elaborations. I think what started the conversation in the past were some folks upset about how tall they were. When asked, about there parents (because its quite normal to grow as tall as either parent) some related how they were as tall as there father's but not taller. They did not like my suggestion that it was likely that they simply inherited the gene for tallness (which is dominant).

i find it very sad that many tall women are percieved by themselves as less feminine. Its why i've mentioned that we come in all sizes and shapes. <<<

>>> your right. But sadly, you've been away awhile (btw, welcome back! i've missed you terribly! :) and we had a period of time when there was a veritable DELUGE of grandiose pretender's. As one of the very few people here with 20+ years in the healthcare industry, you can imagine what it was like for me to come here to talk to my friends with real IS conditions, and watch THEM leave on account of the others. i was astounded when i decided to make a list of them. Soooo many IS women gone.

The problem is, that 'Maria's list' was not accurate, and among those whom she accused, of being a fraud, is prince....ss.

In response to Maria's accusation, prince....ss sent copies of her extensive medical records to Peter, who has since verified that she is exactly as she claimed to be.

Now even though the truth was made plain, Maria has refused to apologise to prince....ss for her hurtful actions, as Peter has asked her to do, and Maria even now still refuses to speak to prince....ss.

see Peter's post here (http://www.bodieslikeours.org/forums/showpost.php?p=19118&postcount=3) to verify

Maria has caused a great deal of trouble, fostering division, suspicion and a great many hurt feelings, and her continuing refusal to make things right has stirred up quite a bit of outrage within some of us.

I left BLO quite some time ago, in part, because it is true that there are those here who are not open and honest like Meadow, who have aggressively co-opted this forum. Sadly, however, the cure that Maria pretends to offer is far worse than the disease.
