Documentary about raising intersex children
Hi
I’m researching the experiences of people raising intersex/DSD babies and children in the UK. My aim is to increase empathy and understanding of this through a feature documentary, leading to more awareness within the public and the families involved.
This project started with a short film I made about a 29 year old intersex woman, Adele. Through Adele, other intersex people who have shared their stories with me, and people working in this field I came to understand that raising DSD/intersex children is an important and challenging job that shapes the child’s life forever.
Are there any mums and dads who would be interested in sharing their views for this project? My main focus is on families facing the challenges of having had to choose a gender for their child when it was uncertain at birth. However anyone who thinks their experience or insight might in any way increase understanding I would greatly and confidentially appreciate any level of advice and input.
