Hi...i am a 23 year old, and i have so many questions!!! I am wondering what my genetic makeup is, like xx, xy, or if there i have a unique makeup...which i think i do...i am female but havenever felt that way, so i am trying to figure out if this is a biological issue. Does anyone know where I would start to get a test done? I spoke with a nurse practicioner but she was clueless...i came out as a lesbian a few years back and that completly changed my life...i gained confidence by not hiding who i was anymore...then i became more comfortable accepting my feelings of being the opposite gender as my given one. I know its more than just cross dressing...for the last 2 years i have shopped in the mens section for clothes and i feel right...but i am totally shunned by my family for this. At the age of 3 I asked my parents to call me, "mike" rather than the name they gave me as a female. so i want to figure out if i am intersexed, trangender, or what...I would love some feed back and help getting started on my pursuit of finding myself.
Thanks!! :)
Hi learning101,
You wrote,

If your external sex organs look similar to those of other women, and if your development at puberty was similar to what most girls experience, then it is very unlikely that you are intersex or that you have atypical chromosomes. If you have any doubts, an ordinary gynecological examination by any physician could answer your question.
Whatever your situation, I hope you find the pathway in life that works best for you. I suggest getting in contact with support organizations for the transgendered. You may be lucky and find one close to you geographically. Even if you are intersex, if you need to ask someone else to find out, then your issues are not going to be very different from if you were not intersex but just transgendered. There are also just not that many good resources for intersex persons who change their gender.
Please also give some very careful thought to the problems you would be taking on if you decide to transition and ask yourself whether it would be worth it for you, and that you are sure you could live the rest of your life as a transman without regret. This is something no one else can decide for you, and there is no fast, simple and easy way to figure it out.
Friendly greetings to all,
Peggy

now also wanted to make it clear that for many TS, it would be nice to have an intersexed condition to explain why, they feel the way they do.
Unfortunately for most, there is no explanation. Ya just feel the way you do, that is just the way you are. honestly, often questions like these do upset alot withing the intersexed community, but we arent always so bad. Helpfull advice for you, the Nurse Practitioner could ordered a blood karyotype, any medical professional could have done that. It is a simple test, just a blood draw really, and the lab does all the work. Also is very innacurate, as a woman you that is, CAH is a little more likely, but you would of mentioned Things common to CAH, as you didnt, I would doubt you have it.
The biggest thing, for most with intersexed conditions is a medical history allready present. Most of us have health issues and it is extremely rare to make it into adulthood without finding out were intersexed. Then again I was 22, but oh well, Honestly just thinking I was a slow learning. Or just that I was asking the right questions when younger but wasnt getting any answers.
Again, There will usually be a medical history, often that medical history is not one your going to want to share. for some, they are alittle luckier and were younger and just dont remember still many examinations by specialised doctors growing up will be the biggest clue.
take care. watch out and no matter what, make yourself happy and let know one tell you what you are, find that out for yourself and hold onto it and fight for your right to be you.
Best wishes always.

Hi,
I read your post and the few responces that you have gotten, and I just wanted to pass this tid bit of information on to you...
There is a condition called Gender Dysphoria. You might want to look it up and see if you fit any of the symptoms. From what you have posted I would think that you should do some investigating on that condition. You might also want to ask your doctor about this condition or for him/her to refer you to a professional who could evaluate you for such a condition.
I wish you the best.
Brianna
