View Full Version : This seems the right place... Hi there

The last few months have been very strange for me, so strange that I've had to go and see my doctor to see if my genital anatomy is... different. My doctor is honestly puzzled and has referred me to a urologist and for an ultrasound.

Before I continue with the details... If there is any truth in the saying that "Life begins at 40", then my life has recently started. (Or maybe its just I'm having a mid-life crisis). Before I got sucked in to VR, I used to have photography and motorcycles as my main interests.

So what is it that was so unusual?
A tubular structure of muscular tissue, which is quite easily aroused and which connects to the base of my phallus. I'd ignored the odd (but pleasurable) sensations that would arise in this tissue until recently... when my physiological response to erotic thoughts altered.

(Hmm, I wonder if I should rewrite those sentences)

Now, I've known for many years that I am under-virilised to the extent that half the time (when wearing jeans and sweatshirts/ baggy t-shirts) I am seen as male, and the rest of the time seen as female. This has led me to suspect PAIS as the most likely reason.

(Ah, you know, to my cynical and jaded mind, it looks like I'm trying to justify myself)

So, Hi everyone.

best wait and see what the doctors say, or if they say anything at all.

most of us couldn't really tell you why or what anything is as we are all different. Way to many possibilities and nearly anything is possible.

I am surprised no-one has said hello yet but then i havent been by in a week so could be people are busy.

no reason or issue with having to justify yourself. When there is some doubt about ourselves it is easy to do so. Give yourself sometime and those doctors some time to see if they can figure out what is going on.

I would love to ask more personal questions about your anatomy but I will leave that sharing to you. I am curious though in general were you raised male or female? that might help a little with understanding what it is your questioning?

Raised male but underverilized, then yes could be PAIS, but then could be tons of other conditions as well.

raised female, with similar features? sorry no idea where i am going with this. but it would help a little.

Hi Ashiri,

I hope you can get some good answers from your doctors. There are so many intersex conditions it's hard to determine what you may or may not have. Keep us informed as to what the doctors say.

Don't worry about that. It's normal to have all kinds of doubts and questions when a situation like this comes into your life.

Hi Kailana,

Yes, I was raised as a boy; my genitals are male in appearance. My hips are broad enough to cause people to wonder as to my sex; on the other hand, my larynx is rather noticeable.

I have had a chromosome count (blood sample) and testosterone levels (and LH too, I think) checked. No extra X's found but T was above normal range.

As for my gender, I don't identify as male.

Wide hips could be the effect of estrogen, but you didn't mention anything about breast development. Have you had your estrogen levels checked? Maybe the ultrasound will give you some more definitive information. I don't know how they check for PAIS.

Hi Ashiri

Hope you find some answers. It's tough dealing with medical people when they generally have no idea what they are looking at, or for. Wish I could help you, everyone of us is different and developed differently. There's no such thing as a text book example of intersex.

PAIS can be tested for, both genetically and they can test cells for receptor activity.

Really though it could be anything or nothing. No one will know until someone makes that ahah moment and figures something out. There is no one test to run, or symptom that can narrow it down. Just round after round of whack a mole medicine.

Hi Aseras
If tests provide some benefit other than satisfying my curiosity then perhaps I should check them out. (Thinking about what you wrote about text book examples... obviously the text books mention 47XXY... or else that's easier to test for)

I just meant that no two cases are ever the same really when you get into the variations, especially with genetics and so many other variables.

I feel that genetics testing is almost worthless, it can help with a diagnosis, but there's not much you can do about genetics. It may help with some form of treatment options or convincing your particular corrupt insurance company to pay up. While it may satisfy some curiosity, generally I've found that the more tests I have done, the more questions I find and the more doubts and depressed I get. I hope that's not your case.
