Hi folks,

I'm new here. Never thought about doing this before, but would be good to talk to others like me, rather than sitting here alone and feeling depressed.

Hi, welcome.

I think most of us know all about being alone and depressed. I sure do. It's nice to be able to come her and talk with other who really understand.

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, but here goes.

Thanks for talking to me. I'm 50 now, I've had gender issues all my life, from a very young age, no one knew what was wrong until 5 years ago and my parents weren't saying. I'm married, surprisingly, (to a nurse) but can't have kids, as I'm sterile. I've got osteoporosis and am just starting drugs to manage it. I don't want testosterone, as I don't feel particularly male and I've never shaved, so what are doctors likely to do if you ask for estrogen?

Any thoughts?

In the US, certain people (like those with 47xxy/Klinefelter's, for example) report various degrees of success in getting low dose estrogen, depending on the individual physician they saw.

But I don't know how the medical system works in england. It doesn't look like there's anyone active here right now from england with a situation like yours. If you did have 47xxy, they have their own specialty forum which has included english members who take estrogen. They would probably know which doctors are easiest.

The majority of doctors will flip out. A few will give you whatever you want. Most will offer you bucketloads of testosterone even though it is a controlled drug. Just have really good reasons for asking for it and rejecting the others.

Welcome

I live in the UK too :sign16:

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so low, presumably you have told your GP... afterall it could be related to your hormone levels?

I don't want testosterone, as I don't feel particularly male

I've never felt particularly male either but have felt much better since I started taking testosterone.
I am diagnosed CAIS so this was considered a bit of an odd request by my doctors
... but I stuck with it and provided them with info. I'd found out and they let me try it.
sooooo I guess I'm saying, if what you're doing isn't working
don't suffer in silence, do some research and ask to be refered to an "expert".... then you can re-explain it all to them :)

anyway, welcome

Thanks for the info, I'm waiting for various tests and I guess I'll find out in due course.

I have noticed over the years however, that because I wouldn't take testosterone, (the first line that came out of their mouth), they assumed me to be a transexxual and sort of lost me in the system, maybe because I didn't fall into any particular diagnosis, or no one really understood about xxy and being able to be both male and female at the same time.

It's only recently that it has come to the forefront, because of people like yourselves and the greater power of the web, that any headway has been made at all and the chance to feel not so alone. What a relief. After all the years of hiding in the shadows and trying to fit in, I find I can finally stand tall and say with pride, 'I'm an intersex and I'm not alone!'

welcome to BLO, sorry for the late response i havent spent much time this last week catching up on posts even though i need too.

I hope ypou are able to get some answers and if indeed intersex i hope you are fortunate enough to find a doctor able to help you understand how and then go on to help you get what you feel is in your best interest.

I would agree with your decision T is nasty stuff and I would hate to see anyone be only offered T as the only treatment available.

please keep all updated on whatever you find out ok, lots of us are interested in all things intersex related.
