ok, crappy article, they should of said stop smoking.
i swear there are some truely batty researchers out there in our crazy little world we call Earth.
when they did get the disease it appeared to be more aggressive and cause a greater number of deaths... [70 per cent higher risk ].
that is actually pretty huge!
it only says HRT should be "especially" avoided by smokers and ex-smokers.
..... and passive smokers?.... and people with poor diets?.... and people exposed to certain chemicals (such as asbestos)?
plus
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality in both men and women in the United States and throughout the world. The prevalence of lung cancer is second only to that of prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in women.
Recent studies indicate that women are more susceptible to developing lung cancer than men. Women smokers are twice as likely to develop lung cancer than male smokers. Even among nonsmokers, a woman’s risk of developing lung cancer is higher than men
but sorry if I wasted your time... I thought it was pretty interesting to know that
that maybe it's another reason why our natural hormones are better than HRT
Even among nonsmokers, a woman’s risk of developing lung cancer is higher than men
The good news, of course, is that nobody knows where to put us: in the male or the female statistics.:lightbulb
Groeten, Miriam
BTW. I don't smoke, never did and never will. It stinks, it's bad for your lungs and yes, I think it doesn't go well with hrt.

Jos you didn't waste my time, i found the article very interesting it just seems well sort of like the end conclusion remarks were directed at the wrong cause or most likely cause of lung cancer.
It also seemed to leave a few things out that I would of expected to see concerning diets. I could of missed information I usually tend to read articles several times, this one though just seemed to be missing alot of other issues like meat eater versus vegetarian diet and other risks factors.
I probably should read a few times again just no idea if I will.
re-reading what I wrote, I realize I was probably being a bit of a grump sorry
It was only a news item... so not like a proper paper but it was mentioned on the Australian AIS_SG site.
I thought people here might be interested because we were talking a lot about hormones and it seemed pretty new news
Are you a veggie too?
I've heard that Paul McCartney is promoting "no meat Monday" or something like that because it's been calculated that cattle raised for meat make a substantial contribution towards harmful gases causing climate change
so another good reason turn to the "veggie" side  :)

ok, crappy article, they should of said stop smoking.
I know of two life-long non-smokers who died of lung cancer. It may not be a coincidence that they both lived in the New Zealand city of Rotorua, which is famous for high levels of sulphur in the atmosphere (due to volcanic activity in the surrounding area). But I believe that approximately 15% of people who get lung cancer have never smoked, and they can't all live in Rotorua (I'm sure statisticians woiuld have noticed if they did).

I almost am. I used to be a strict veggie, but I've been eating some fish lately because it's supposed to provide nutrients which help in reducing chronic pain.

True. It applies most strongly to ruminant animals like cattle, sheep, deer and goats. Pig farming and poultry farming also produce greenhouse gas emissions, but not anywhere near as much. Animal farming accounts for about half of New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions.
Nicholas Stern (British Economist who has studied climate change) and Rajendra Pachauri (head of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) have gone further than Paul McCartney, and advocated that people should turn completely vegetarian to stop climate change.
cheers,
Caroline

Even if it dose cause cancer, would you rather live a long healthy life as a man, knowing you should be a woman, or a shorter life as the woman you know you are?
(or Vice Versa)

very off topic, but that reminded me of an Episode of See Quest: DSV called "Whale Songs" from waaay back in 1193, they had an episode that was about one of the more "Seedy" crew members getting his hand on a pound of contraband Beef, Cows having been outlawed due to their " substantial contribution towards harmful gases causing climate change"
