Hi,
What sort of medicine are you in?
Also, you haven't said much about yourself.

Hello,
I am in Family & Community Medicine, though not a Doc. I will post a narrative in a bit.
Thanks,

welcome galens47
I would say that it is a good idea to share more knowledge, way too many doctors I have seen, new nothing about intersex conditions. Fact is more often then not A nurse new more, only because they had watched some rescent documentary on tv then the doctors I have been treated by.

I agree completely.
The Docs I work with are generally onboard with the method of teaching it everytime they talk about gender as it should be. It needs to be known, we need to have support, and the medical profession can no longer stuff its head in the sand when we talk about sex and gender...grrr.
A good read is Mary Roach - Bonk.
Cheers,
Galen
Hi Galen,
Welcome to Bodies Like Ours. I have heard good things about you from a mutual intersex friend. I look forward to hearing more about your story and your interests.

Movement!
We have a champion to push the project through the gauntlet (academic speak of politcal maneuvering). There is $$ to be spent on speakers and lecturers and a real need for willing contestants. So far I've made contact with the Predoctoral programs and they are very interested in integration and are open to ther perspective the gender variation should be taught in the class they teach about males and females. I will attend one of the gender courses in January as a ringer.
On the topic of research for intersex without a binary perspective is moving forward. There seems to be quite a bit if interest and there is a wadload of NIH $$ available as part of the stimulus!
There is talk of kindling a response team associated with Peds, Fam Med and Social Work for UC Davis (Sacramento) and our network throughout Northern CA etc.
I will be meeting with the Center for Gay's and Lesbians to add the "I" tomorrow. They are looking at changing the name to Pride Center!
If you have questions or would like to help please PM me.
This has been fun and frustrating, but a good project and it seems to come naturally for me.
Cheers,
Galens47

great to see someone else with a positive respect or an "I".
I know over the years many don't want to see an "I" associated with the LGBT movement, but I really do think it is needed.
Galen47, I hope things work out well would be good to know there is well more of a voice present where it matters most kind of thing.
oh and if your ever in the need of a guinea pig let me know, lol. In all honesty that is all I have ever been.
I would so love to be able to show lets say a bunch of urology, radiology students and doctors just what can be seen during echogram examination, hell I could even show them how to use ultrasound to copy and paste to hide surgical scarring while a patient is watching, seriously it was very frustrating to see a tech hide in front of my eyes just so there wouldn't be evidence present on films,
then again since films aren't really used much anymore it seems I am sure I could help some understand the importance of being honest.
good luck to you and your endeavers it is good to see someone with the ability to really do some good.
