It is interesting Aseras, in a few ways. I started doing more reading about it and found this link at the NIH; http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition=17betahydroxysteroiddehydrogenase3deficiency

One thing their article said was that only half of the people having this voluntarily choose to switch to male. If the article you linked had all of them switching, then maybe there's a lot of forced/coerced changes going on for religion's sake.

There are other conditions too that pick on people from certain ancestries, some of the less common forms of cah for example.
