View Full Version : Research into Androgyny and Neutroi
The Complexity of Transgenderism
Research study
We are conducting a study which aims to explore the characteristics of people who consider themselves to have a gender identity of either a combination of male and female characteristics or neither and who have either altered their appearance to appear androgynous or who desire to alter their appearance. It is our experience that some people who fit this description have needs which are not presently recognised or met by medical services. We would like to better understand these types of people in order to address this area of unmet need.
If you would like to know more about participating in the study, please contact Dr Anna Stout at:
Email: annastout@<hidden>
Post: Anxiety Disorders Residential Unit, Royal Bethlem Hospital, Monks Orchard Road, Beckenham, Kent, BR3 3BX
Tel: 07811 352 320
Participation in the study will involve meeting with the researcher, Dr Anna Stout,
at a time and place convenient to yourself. At this meeting, you will be asked a series of questions regarding issues such as the age at onset and the development of any gender dysphoria; sexuality and sexual dysfunction; the motivation for androgyny; the physical changes desired; the degree of preoccupation, the nature of any gender dysphoria; the distress and handicap related to any gender dysphoria; the obstacles to achieving androgynous appearance; the success or failure of such surgery and any experience of psychiatric services.
You will also be asked to complete a series of questionnaires regarding mental health and sexuality. The interview and the questionnaires should take approximately 2-3 hours to complete.
All information which is collected about you during the course of the research will be kept strictly confidential, and any information about you which leaves the hospital/surgery will have your name and address removed so that you cannot be recognised. All data will be anonymous.
The study has been reviewed by the East Central London Research Ethics Committee 1.
Thank you for taking the time to read this information sheet and considering taking part in the study.

This forum is not primarily for persons who are transgender or who suffer from gender dysphoria; it is a forum primarily for the purpose of support for those with physical intersex conditions.

wow
seriously there moderator
steady on.....ease up......calm yourself!
this forum...our forum
is not primarily for persons who are transgender........not primarily but secondary and some intersexed are convinced we are all transgendered, its a slight border between intersexed and intergendered
or who suffer from gender dysphoria.......or better put, people who suffer at the hands of people who want to keep a fake two tiered sex system-such as most people with power on BLO......fake-so good a word i say it twice...fakefake two tiered sex system
"it is a forum primarily for the purpose of support for those with physical intersex conditions."
excellently put louisev
TRUE
but that does not mean that these doctors who are interested in intergender and the mix of intergender and intersex together, cannot be welcomed in with their research project and look for participants
as moderator, you ought to recognise the need for this type of people to be allowed in and ask questions
not running them off with"you are in the wrong section"
hahaha
come on.......you are joking right!?!
this study they are conducting means a lot to many on BLO
so do it for us...rather than deciding alone or with a few that this is off topic!
please state that you yourself went off topic recently and talked about CAH
your own condition instead of staying on topic and talking about the names of people that have contributed to there being intersex activists!
i have been a member of BLO for many many years
you are welcome to do a good job for all of us as moderator
that means ,dont put off essential doctors or possible researchers ffrom finding their ",man" at BLO
be always welcoming
andre, you set up a welcoming team at xxytalk
even though i was chief welcomer there when i was there anyway
is there a thing or two we can teach about welcoming, truly welcoming people
or will you leave that to me
seeing as i am a bit of a social expert
and i respect all people
and try and keep it cool
I JUST WROTE A BOOK
GET IT ON AMAZON
have you read this book above people---hope so---important talk
no time to ignore here
for the non readers of books:simply said:dont put people off
turn them on to being interested and feeling welcome

EllieH is perfectly welcome to post a notice for a research study here, however, this forum does not comprise her target population. It may not have been obvious, so I made sure it was clear to her. Regardless of whether some intersex persons suffer from gender dysphoria or identify as transgender is beside the point that this is not a transgender support forum, despite what you or anyone else might think - it's a support forum for intersex conditions and those who wish to learn more about them.
Please try to refrain from making extensive personal comments about my intentions or motivations, thanks!

i will try and refrain from making personal comments about you and your intentions
you will try also i can imagine to accept all posts fro ANY interested parties
and try and not thwart them away by stating things like
"this forum does not comprise her target population. It may not have been obvious, so I made sure it was clear to her. "
let us all be clear with any member or moderator
that
us intersexed people are included in the gay lesbian bisexual transsexual/transgender gender queer communities!
therefore because of it being called the LGBTQI community
that means, quite simply that THIS FORUM CAN have enough/one or some members who fit the target population
so i would like to make it crystal clear that INTERSEX people comprise of some of the people who are a part of the LGBTQ&Intersex communities
and that some transgender people are also intersex
so this persons aim is to make people aware of what they are doing
and to also find relevant people to take part!
its the job and service that BLO does and provides for helping out where we can!
lets be clear...and lets be clearer than clear
rather than thinking that we all speak for each other
we dont
we are all one but we are not the same

Greetings,
I appreciate your recent request for participants in the intersex community. If you are keeping an eye on your thread you've probably noticed there are quite varying degrees of the feelings, dxs, etc you've requested contact you.
Many of us have been medically altered without our consent toward a societal gender norm. Many of us choose to live as who we are giving up on the medical community and hold deep mistrust of them. As for gender dysphoria, this term is a farce. When a person disagrees with the gender of assignment they have a pathology? Isn't gender a social construct and a collection of personality traits that combine into a whole outward projection of gender (gender identity)? When a person is assigned a gender at birth it is a blind estimate based upon subjective observations. The OB often has no idea how the child will develop and if the "assigned gender" is or will be accurate.
I choose to live as androgynous and would like to have the ability to choose A or I on forms. I am not male or female by definition.
I would love to be a part of your study, but it looks like I am on the other side of the pond from you.
Good luck, I would enjoy reading your outcomes.
Cheers,
Galens47

i would love if galens was involved in this study
would love if the people in kent, england would pay people like galens to at least get over to britain from america and be studied
i would also love cc to be transported from sydney australia
and then i would love myself to be given time to make my own way across the lands and the sea to there
i have a friend in maidstone i could stay with
then i would love if prince......ss was flown in from the states too
and kailana from vancouver to kent
and we could all meet there!:interesti
and we would have plenty of variance and nice personalities to get on with each other and the doctors there!
again fantasy more than reality:bis:
:rolleyes1 but one never knows:roll:

never say never

Your study sounds interesting, however I have some questions. I do not identify as androgyny, however I have issues reconciling the male and female attributes written on my body into the one socially presentable form. Society may hesitate over my gender, but I identify as intersex as a gender, in addition to being investigated for the medical condition (which makes it sound a tad criminal :( ) I am interested in the study not as potentially intersex, as louisev suggested this does not quite link in, however as an individual I feel i can identify with some but not all of the target areas that you have highlighted.
