Strange Sex season 2 - Woman with 2 vaginas

Hi,
Because I'm FEATURED in the season 2 premiere of Strange Sex on The Learning Channel (clip: http://tlc.discovery.com/videos/strangesex-seeking-sensation.html) April 3rd, I happened to notice that one of the other segments is about a woman supposedly with "2 vaginas." Follow the link to see her clip.

What exact condition she has and her thoughts about whether she wished something surgical had been done to her in childhood may come out on the show.

Strange Sex is a half-hour show, and each week they do 2 segments per show. A season is 10 shows.

BTW, I had plenty to say about IS during the interview process, but you can bet they cut it out. They shot me for 3 days to make a 15-minute segment; literally my 15 minutes of fame.

To my knowledge they didn't have an IS segment in season one. Season 2 is in the can, but they are CASTING now (see web site) for season 3 so if anyone wants to advance awareness on a show seen by about 1.2 million people (http://corporate.discovery.com/discovery-news/tlc-hit-series-strange-sex-returns-for-a-second-se/) check it out.

That's very kind, but since I quit my day job it doesn't take a whole lot of courage to speak out. The only thing I fear is not being able to have an impact to secure the rights of babies to grow up and make their own decision.

you have my vote for intersex president of the year

i also have come across so many different types of people with varying bodies and minds
with my last 6 or more years on the internet

there are so many examples where medical science continues to play catch up
and stories like this get swept under some heavy carpet with the authorities who write the "facts" hoping that these stories will never be uncovered

i think one of the biggest problems on planet earth is so called "men"

the masculine
the people who must prove how "man" they are and how "woman" they are not

i put man and woman like this:"man" , "woman"
because i dont categorise people as that
i am not 100% perfect with that statement because i do state that i have "girl"friends and i still am forced to use pronouns sometimes

but because of the diversities of human beings

i am still an advocate for people who feel lost,alone and unrepresented in a barbie and ken world

barbie and ken were made up dolls
we are far from that

we are naturallly variant
all of us
and each body deserves the right to life as they feel fit}
not just as the "professional" "experts" think is the right way to look and therefore feel/behave!

Thanks for informing culturally illiterate little me about the existence of this television show.

It's ironic that, at the same time as the media are, if anything, getting more puritanical about nudity and explicit sex, there is less and less inhibition about this kind of exploitative freak show.

What would they do?

Partial or (in this case) complete division of the female reproductive tract into two side-by-side components is actually not extremely uncommon. It does not necessarily require treatment and can be compatible with normal sexual function and pregnancy.

I watched a clip from that show and thought they really over-dramatized the whole thing, building up dramatic tension before each revelation and playing creepy music in the background.

I have to comment that I have very mixed feelings about most broadcast (and popular print-media) treatments of intersex. My impression is that the producers always give primacy to entertainment value over providing the public with useful information. When they do mention issues, the message often comes out as promoting two ideas I'm against - the first, that it's wrong to give intersex children a sex-of-rearing not concordant with their chromosomal and gonadal sex, usually illustrating this with cases of people rejecting a female sex-of-rearing and implying that this is invariably a basically wrong thing. Two examples are the Advocate article you gave a link to and recent the recent article by Alice Dreger (Alice Dreger's Tale of Tea) we've discussed here earlier.

The other idea they promote is that children in the wrong sex-of-living will have feelings of gender dysphoria very similar to those of the transgendered and will spontaneously report those feelings to the adults in their lives.

My own life has been seriously adversely affected by both these ideas.

I'm curious about what you said about intersex. Note that a recent topic here has been whether non-intersex persons are doing the right thing when they speak publicly about intersex issues. I myself am all in favor of people expressing their opinions, but I do think it's best when those who speak make sure their opinions are informed ones. An opinion can be informed by first-hand experience and/or by gathering of information. Unfortunately, some of the televised information on intersex I've seen appears to have been informed by neither (or very little) of these things.

Here's an extreme example of something about intersex persons, obviously created by an ignorant person with absolutely no personal experience of intersex and very little background knowledge.

i am in the first 5 minutes of watching
