My name is Mykel, I'm not intersexed, but I am gay and am currently bogged down by right wing homophobes at the Arianna Online (http://www.ariannaonline.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=5) chat forum, who refuse to even answer my questions and concerns about their position as it relates to the issue of intersexed rights.

I have repeately asked them if they are opposed to gay marriage equality, then who do they feel the intersexed should be able to marry, and, LO AND BEHOLD, I can't get a one of 'em to answer.

It's as if the issue doesn't exist and/or their brains' logical centers simply cannot compute the data.

I have been going to this site for three years now, starting shortly after 9/11. As you may know, Arianna Huffington is a nationally syndicated columnist who recently ran against Arnold Scharzeneggar for Governor of California. She is also a brave former right winger whose ex-husband, Michael, was a right wing millionaire who came out of the closet in the early 90's after a failed attempt to basically buy a California senate seat. A few years after he revealed he was gay, Arianna switched sides and is now a staunch liberal who supports gay rights, opposes the drug war and fears for America under George W. Bush.

I remember when her website chat forum was dominated by white conservative homophobic males. As my debates and full-on fights with these men grew and evolved to encompass racial minority rights, women's rights and the rights of the poor, the young and the disabled, I have seen many more women, disabled and people of color join in.

I am hoping I don't have to be the lone voice in the wilderness speaking out for intersexed rights anymore.

This site is one of the most uncensored on the internet and now enjoys a wide range of people from all walks of life.

Please join me in helping bring to the forefront of everyone's minds the issue of intersexed rights.

If we can succeed in changing just one right winger's mind, or even enlighten the curious liberal, I feel it will be worth it!

Believe me, I've seen it happen before!

Thanks again. I'm so happy to have found you all.

Hope to see you!

Mykel

Hi Mykel and welcome to the BLO forum. You bring up an important issue.

You said:

"I have repeatedly asked them if they are opposed to gay marriage equality, then who do they feel the intersexed should be able to marry, and, LO AND BEHOLD, I can't get a one of 'em to answer."

I trust that you have a big heart and would like to see full marriage rights extended to all people. A question that I have for you is how do the rights of intersex people relate to gay marriage as intersex rights? Intersex people come in all sexual orientations - gay, straight, and asexual. I am not sure that the demands of gay intersex people to marry are that much different than the demands of gay non-intersex people to marry. I am not aware of any laws in the United States that forbid intersex people the right to marry because we are intersex. There are plenty of laws that unfairly deny gay people the right to marry.

I know a gay intersex man who was considering bringing a law case in California over the question of the rights of an intersex "man" to marry another man. If the case had gone forward, I believe that it actually would have been more beneficial to transgender rights and breaking the gender binary that says that all people have to be either a man or a woman. I am not sure that the case would have been all that valuable for advancing gay civil rights.
