Hey everyone (yes, I know I should be packing :whipg: ) I'm beginning to get a bit concerned about disk space usage for the website. There's plenty, but there's a lot of waste as well.
One big consumer of disk space is the private messaging system available with the forums. I have the limits set ridiculously high at 200 messages allowed to be stored. In addition, I have the text limits set pretty high. Those limits were set when the board was much smaller but as we have lots more members now, they are not realistic.
In order to reclaim some space, on or around the first of the year I'm going to reduce the number of allowable stored messages to 75. The total includes sent messages as well as those received. You can save a lot of space by not storing sent messages.
If you have more than 75 messages, you will need to prune your box down to size. If you absolutely can't live without them, there's a download function on your pm page (bottom right of the page). You can download your box as a csv, xml, or text file. If you don't know what I am talking about with different files or don't have a clue what to do with them, I recommend downloading as a text file. If you use a news reader, the XML file will allow you read them in it.
I highly recommend you clean out your box before I dump the tables because I am not sure which ones it will keep and which ones it will delete. I'll likely start with sent messages and go from there.
