Betsy,
I thought the article was well written and, as you said, a good into to Intersex 101. However, I do not think that the John/Joan case is the best way to illustrate how some doctors, such as John Money, think that gender is a matter of nurture vs. nature. When talking about intersex, why not give an example of a child who was assigned a gender at birth but who changed genders later on in life? I think the John/Joan case is an interesting e.g. of the influence of nature versus nurture in determining one's gender. However, the same issue can be illustrated by talking about an intersexed individual.
Cheers!

P.S. What did you think of the ariticle??
Hi Victoria,
I liked it...it was written very simply and easy to understand. The part I found most interesting was the part where intersexed people were asked what they would do if it was their child. I was quite surprised by the theory that intersexed people, while loathing their own treatment would consider subjecting their own child to the same treatment they were.

ps...welcome back...I hope you had a great summer!
