I recently watched the movie version of The Phantom of the Opera. When I saw the play I hadn't noticed the lyrics which explain the Phantom's condition. His condition turns out to be congenital and involves the reproductive system. Hmmmm......

Anyway, thought it worth the trip back here to see what y'all thought...

Christine:
Have you gorged yourself at last
in your lust for blood?
Am I now to be prey
to your lust for flesh?

Phantom:
That fate, which condemns me to wallow in blood
Has also denied me the joys of the flesh . . .
This face, the infection which poisons our love . . .

This face, which earned a mother’s fear and loathing
A mask, my first unfeeling scrap of clothing

They must have changed things slightly in the latest remake.
In previous versions, he was horribly burned in a fire when he
tried to prevent his opera from being published, with only the
mildest hints of reproductive damage.

Actually, I sort of liked the "Phantom of the Paradise" :-)
