View Full Version : More surgery

Here I go again. I had a phone call a couple of hours ago confirming an appointment for surgery on the afternoon of Monday 4th (not a holiday here). It's to deal with problems with previous breast surgery. One surgery seems to beget another. Although I really hope that this will be the last.

I'm going to end up with the full 'inverted T' breast reduction scars - the smiley, horizontal bar is needed to deal with excess skin that's causing a "dog ear" on the left and a "sling" on the right.

I think I should be glad - and my health insurance fund is even paying for it - but my last experiences were so bad that I'm scared, too.

I feel pretty sick that I have to go through this to improve the result - it seems that transmen who go through breast reductions end up with better scarring than I have.

It's also under under local anaesthetic with a different surgeon. There's no way I'm going under this time.

I _do_ feel ok about the surgeon, though. He's had (contradictory) hospital and surgeon reports from the first surgery I had, plus copies of pre-surgery correspondence. And we've talked about it all in detail.

Morgan (teeth not chattering yet, but they will be by Monday afternoon)

Good luck. The waiting seems the worst part, I know how that feels. If they don't offer it to you, you could ask them for something to calm you down a few hours before the surgery.

Hi Fee and Sofie

Thank you! The waiting is definitely painful...

Hi Morgan,

Best wishes for the surgery. Waiting is hard. Thanks for sharing what you are going throught, as it is important for people to know that not all intersex surgeries happen in childhood. I will be thinking of you on Monday.

Hi Peter

I've had friends keep me busy all weekend, which has been truly great. The highlight has been a concert/gig by Antony and the Johnsons. The music is extraordinary and hopeful despite being melancholic, and I might post again about it. Antony opened with a piece called 'My Lady Story', which speaks to the moment.

all the best

Hi

Apart from shaking all through the surgery and being sore now, I'm ok and glad that the surgery is over.

May the gods keep you well. I'm sorry for not answering until now
while you're recovering. It' seems you've been as much the recipient
of unfairly intended demands, as many others here.

Thanks, Melissa.

I'm doing ok. Bandaged, I look better than I did after the other surgeries. More scars should mean a better shape once they're off, too.

I'm still kind of stunned by the run up to the surgery. Particularly Antony and the Johnsons, complete with songs about breast amputation and any number of different gender identities. Immediately followed by Guinness and long discussions with a couple of friends about Stuff They Ddn't Know About Before. It's been an emotional but supportive experience.

Talking about the diagnoses/some of the surgeries is still a completely new experience for me - in person, face to face, with people who know me. I only told my mother the full story as I know it a few months ago - and after I joined BLO. Before that, there were a couple of close friends who happened to visit at the time of a previous surgery, my ex-partner, my counsellor, and doctors.

Melissa, I hope you get some answers on your own medical situation soon, and progress on other fronts too.

Hi Jolinn

Thanks! Gurab amhlaidh duit. Idaho's an interesting place for an Irish speaker... and if you wrote that unaided, your Irish is better than mine...

Hope everyone here who's in London is ok, too... Fee? Like many I've friends who live or work in areas affected...
