Last thursday I had an eye exam due to some vision problems.
It turns out that my vision needs some correction, mismatched
eye focus and some astigmatism that came from nowhere. Such
a thrill (not), but I resolved to make the best of the situation
and today I spent two hours finding a very nice pair of glasses at
Lenscrafters in my local mall.

I was surprised to notice that my head has literally shrunk. The
width of my skull at the temples now being small enough to fit
in an ordinary pair of "ladies" frames. That's not supposed to be
possible, except in osteoporosis.

I was also surpised in that their online check-brokering service
(Certegy Inc) refused to let me pay. They refused with no reason
given. I knew that I had more than enough funds to cover the price
of eyeglasses, so I went to a nearby branch of my bank to find out
what was wrong. Everything was fine in my bank's opinion, but they
couldn't do anything because it was Certegy's fault. So I went back
to Lenscrafters and they still wouldn't budge. All I could do was get
Certegy's phone number. So I called and they wouldn't give me a
reason either, no explanation at all. They were able to verify over
the phone that they could see enough money in my account.

I've never bounced a check, or had a bad credit rating. I could have
just cashed my own check and given them cash, but there is a moral
principle involved. One last visit to Lenscrafters got me a "too bad"
response, so I walked away with my prescription in hand. Though it's
slightly fuzzy reading it.

In other news, an article in the 7/24 edition of the UnionLeader tells
the story of a guy who's birth certificate says "female". He's not TS,
and apparently not IS either, just an ordinary guy who's the victim of
a clerical error. That "F" has been causing him no end of problems, and
there's no legal way to change it to an "M" without surgery which he
has no need nor desire for. I'll try to provide more details in a seperate
posting.

I've heard that dolphins can die of lonliness. I understand.

I guess that the above post proves that I'm simply just a conversation
killer around here. Eyeglasses are something that many people can relate
to due to personal experience.

Some of you know my email address, if you ever care to keep in touch.

Melissa, that’s not all true:

I was going to respond to your post initially, but your reply, with it's accusation of nobody " giving a damn about you" :push: dissuaded me at first....although ultimately I decided to respond. In fact, I could relate to your feeling of being "slapped in the face" in a public setting.....ironically, with your accusation of being "slapped in the face" by BLO people , it is perhaps you, now, doing some face-slapping. I have had plenty of posts that noone responded to and yet I have not been "shunned", even though on one occassion I felt that way; but I know better now. Perhaps it may be prudent to rethink your outlook......I don't feel that most people on this discussion board are as "cold-blooded" as you may perceive; and it is prejudgmental to conclude that people bear certain emotions or are treating others a certain way when (in 2-dimensional cyberspace) a person (poster) cannot see their faces, hear their voices, nor be able to perceive their body language and "vibes".
And lastly, you are not the only one that has felt this way. More people than you would think have felt that they were being ignored or face-slapped at one time or another. Human nature and one's psyche can be fragile and reactive, and consequently very easily hurt when trials and tribulations are being experienced.....even though the perceived neglect and/or abandoning was not intentional nor real. I know this from personal experience. Take a look at some of the responses you've had in past threads; you will see that people do care and react to your posts.

Anyway, please take care.

Dana

Hi Melissa,

I hope you are doing well. Many times people start a thread and the posts are interesting, but people do not respond. I noticed that of now, your thread has 48 people listed as having viewed it. It seems that a good number of people are interested in what you have to say. Part of your post was somewhat alarming. I thought of saying something at the time, but decided not to. You said: "I was surprised to notice that my head has literally shrunk. The width of my skull at the temples now being small enough to fit in an ordinary pair of "ladies" frames”. As you mentioned, people can relate to the experience of purchasing eyeglasses. But I think that it is more difficult for people to personally relate to a head shrinking. I know that seeing a psychiatrist is often referred to as "seeing a shrink", but most people take the term figuratively rather than literally. If I found that my head was shrinking, I would discuss the matter with my personal doctor. I am not sure that I would post the information on a public forum, because of the possibility of being misunderstood by the world at large. I definitely recommend seeing a doctor about your situation.

Peter

Perhaps not true, but hard to say. That link turns up a page not found
error.

I don't normally measure my head. About 7 years ago, I was given a birthday
present of a gift certificate for sunglasses. Out of a large variety, there was
not a single pair of serengeti's or rayban's that could fit me. As of now, any
one of them could.
I can't talk to my doctor. My latest status is my doctor begrudgingly seeming
to agree with the first mri report, but now dismissing all of my health needs
out of hand. There is no option left to pursue. I have failed in my quest for
self-preservation. I now have approximately 2 weeks left until my next
trouble. People understand what they wish. It's too late for me anyways.

They likely are making them bigger as people are getting fatter. I used to wear like size 4 in many clothes and now I am buying size 2 or even size 0 in some styles, even though I've gained a little bit of weight since I was fitting into 4's. I buy more clothes in kids departments now than I did as a kid because I've noticed things have gotten larger.
