My name is Tracy, and I have CAH. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I never had the vaginal corrective surgery done as an infant or child. Now, at the age of 30, I have come to the realization that having this surgery would improve my life, and well being overall. I live in the detroit area, and need help getting started. Who should I call? I know that I probably can have this surgery covered under my insurance, as mensturation causes me frequent UTI's.

Any advice?

Dear Ms.,

Whatever doctor that helps you with the UTI is the one to call. The primary, gyno, or endo would have a list of assoicates that would help.

Write or call one of those people on the Intersex Society of North America Medical board- Some are in Michigan or

caresfoundation.org CAH ORGANIZATION or

your gyno?

Maybe something else would help the UTI'S besides surgery. Not sure what surgery you mean women with CAH all look different - Some have no vaginal canal but vagina high and way up on the inside.

The doctors on the ISNA medical board seem like a good place to start based on what you wrote in the CAH thread.

good luck take care

Thank you for the information. I will pursue these orginizations. Hopefully I will not get the response of "why bother" like I did from an esteemed medical professional like I did before.

Advice? perhaps think twice about whether insurance will cover anything. They don't care, not even if your innards are so screwed up that standing and walking is a terrible pain betwixt the hips. Sadly to say. Though welcome to the forums.
