I never had to reboot when I lived on FairyView Hill. The outhouse, while still on the property and functioning, was replaced by a modern indoor faucet.

There were some other pipes leading off of the faucet from the well. I had a real indoor toilet, a shower, a kitchen sink, and even a dishwasher. The water coming out all those faucets was a bit suspect though. You have never, ever, cleaned a toilet until you have had hard water from a dirty well. And if electric went out, you were pumping for a flush.

The thing that did me in was winter. One storm I had about a 10 foot drift at the end of the driveway. I was on the street side after spending the night elsewhere and my car was on the other side. That was no fun. The other was after an ice storm.

That morning, all the wood was coated in about 3/4 of ice and there was no easy to bust it apart. I was relying quite heavily on wood to heat the place. Later, when I got into my car, I couldn't move on the ice and had the bright idea of inching forward just a bit so I could build up some inertia but put my car onto a sheet of ice sliding downhill through the meadow until I hit a weak spot and broke through it and came to a bit of a grinding halt. Two flat tires punctured by ice and a very expensive tow made me quickly reconsider my living situation. I moved shortly thereafter and began my wandering journey for the last couple of years to find the right place. I think I found it---noisy neighbors and all.

In the summer, it was a really love place...unless it didn't rain much and then the water was orange.
