I know this is like way personal,
And prolly painful. But like I have Early-Onset Generalized Dystonia (http://www.dystonia-foundation.org/defined/early.asp), like on top of having C.A.H., and I was just like wondering how many other intersexed people are disabled too. I'm posting this in our C.A.H. forum cause it seems more likely that like likely what we'd be prone to disabling conditions. But I'm gonna post this in our Meeting Board too, just so I can like find out from like everyone here.
Take care,
Katie
I'm disabled with scoliosis and some invertebral disc prolapses. I'm able to work and have a NHS-funded part-time job.

I mean Dory the fish of "finding Nemo" has better retention than i do! That and my audio processor seems to be screwed up. I hear just fine.... even better than average..... but i cannot always understand what is being said. Its as if i'm hearing (instead of speaking) "word salad" as we call it in DD circles.
the internet is such a Godsend for folks like me. I can "see" language far better than i can "hear" it..... As if my visual cortex is by-passing a faulty connection.
What's positively miraculous though, is that if someone SINGS to me; i hear, understand, and remember every word.
Its how i taught myself so much that i missed in school. Anybody remember "schoolhouse rock"? Got the darn pre-amble of the constitution memorized that way!
I'm autistic and regard being so rather as "missed opportunities" than a disability. I never did, but at primary teachers almost had me go to a school for retarded children.
When I'm in a crowd, words usually become "word salad" or I may even collapse, but it's fine in small groups.

But as someone who is both disabled myself and works with others with disabilities (my legs and arms work fine, so i can help those whose don't :) i can attest that from a purely legal standpoint one is considered disabled IF:
That untreated (or compensated for) one's condition so inhibits a persons ability to either care for themselves or function IN SOCIETY, that left to there own devices they are a danger to themselves or others.
I fit this definition because without either the drugs for ADD or the coping mechanisms i have learned, i was unable to hold onto a job.
Getting work was easy. Doing the job was easy. The social skills necessary to cope with co-workers and bosses? That took a looooooong time to get. What other kids seemed to learn by osmosis, i needed to be taught.
The horrid paradox was that my IQ was/is so high, that others expected me to already know!
Had i not had a family to bail me out every so often, i shudder to think what would have happened to me.
Then there's the other horrid paradox......
The abusive family who knew there was a problem, decided that beatings were the solution.
I learned nothing but violence from them, but this does not work in the world.
And the world would not teach me..... because i SHOULD already know!
Thank God for a loving wife and compassionate individuals along the journey! But i had to search for them. And even they could not teach me everything. And they too, had there own Mishegatz.
And my wife died 3 years after we met.
But i'm alright. Really. I make enough to support myself and i have a landlady/friend/mother figure whose good company, while i make myself ready for someone wonderful to care for.
I think i have found her. I pray that i don't blow it. Foot-in-mouth disease kills relationships in the bud.
Your not alone. I'm struggling w/ mental disabilities and phyisical. Which do ya want first?

>>>> you know, you may want to post this to a BUNCH of the other forums because in talking to a couple of AIS'ers i get the impression that having one somewhat obvious resessive gene does not preclude having others..... some of them disabeling.
and some of us (i believe i'm thinking of the mosaics) have our bodies butchered so badly by surgeons, that we have life-long problems with our urinary tract.
then there's the Turner's and Klinefelter's who are predicted by the books (and thankfully, many of them defy the medical texts) to have some retardation.
BTW, can anyone figure out why someone (in another board) has decided to ream me new asshole? I asked everyone a simple Question. Instead of an opinion backed with a little thought, i got called every name in the book. While i was ducking the flames, i tried to wave a white flag and got toasted for doing so. I'd apologize if i could figure out what i said that was so offensive, but the first time i tried that, my words were taken out of context, and flamed for what i didn't even say.
I have asperger's syndrome (a variant of autism).
I am not disabled. I work 60+ hrs a week. Asperger's leads to other (more social) problems though.
I am a CAH, Aspergers diagnosed Lesbian with major depressive disorder. Blah.

>>>> Nice to meet you :) my daugher is also CAH and Asperger's, but i'm sure the little imp is straight ;) she's been batting her eyelashes at men since she was 2 years old and i have to beg total strangers NOT to spoil her, lol.
which reminds me of an interesting conundrum.....
My mother was CAH and straight without "corrective" surgery to prevent lesbianism.
My daughter is CAH and straight without "corrective" surgery to prevent lesbianism.
I have CAH and am TOTALLY BENT and i had the "corrective" surgery to prevent lesbianism.
So what can we conclude?
That the surgery doesn't work and isn't even "needed".
So why operate?
Because some surgeons are emotionally threatened by females with small phalluses?
Because he needs to make a payment on his boat?
