Hello I'm the new member. Even though I've been within the gay community for the last 30 years, only now do I find myself being outed as IS. If the gay rights movement is going to speak for us, they've got to get over the psychobabble and ignorance. As someone who's gender development was scrambled by DES, I can assure anyone my civil rights were violated then. The civil right I'm concerned with is the right to undisrupted development free from these powerful synthetic hormones. Then the medical world lied to us, primarily through John Money who tried to psychologize the whole issue, except for the "urinary tract anomalies" which alittle surgery could fix up. Now we know the brain architecture is gender specific. My ability to develop a gender identity was permanently IMPAIRED. What I hear from glbt groups is clueless as to the real issues, unless we hate heterosexuals so much that we celebrate a kind of biological warfare that will destroy their gender during fetal development . Hurray for the brave new world where reproduction is controlled by the for profit gender reconstruction industry. We have so much education to do before the gay community stops this ignorant undermining of our medical rights. For instance "it's not a disease". Help...how to respond ??? We're obviously going to sell a lot of copies of OUR STOLEN FUTURE.
Thanks for being here,
Eli

Dear community,
Perhaps the above is a little too raw for people to respond to. Where am I coming from? I'm a biological essentialist, as most medical doctors are. My perspective on IS history over the last 40 years is that the social constructionists have finally been discredited...one has to play with the cards one is dealt. Sexual development is a dichotomy not a continuum. To be stuck half way between both is dysfunctional and a liability, i.e. a disease. Ely Lily and the cattle industry kept marketing DES to pregnant women for 20 years after they knew it was compromising the gender development of the fetus. We were sacrificed for the extra $ 50-80/head DES yielded until they found a substitute that was not 100% orally effective (synvex in 1972). Social constructionists were the effective propagandists of this medical conspiracy. I hate to talk about this, but its time to end the cover up. I'm old enough to overcome the shame, and too old to swallow any more rage. Transexuals embody the discredited medical theories that injured intersexed people, specifically that gender can be restored with surgery and hormones. After the critcal periods, you are what you are, the make believe covers up the liability, but has that really worked for the patients? I feel that the gay rights movement has mindlessly embraced transexuals and hence, dare I say, been coopted by the cattle industry in drag. The only remedy is to reclaim our history.

And how do you propose to do that? Since, as you say, being “affected” by DES is a permanent outcome (“you are what you are) remembering that on an individual basis the outcome (physically and psychosexually) would be dose/time dependant. Stay as one is and remain a liability? Perhaps what one could say is that, has “transitioning” really worked for society?…that is from one liability to another in “their” eyes, since the same “they” see transsexuality as a “disease”

You sound resigned to a cruel fate, your reaction to something you see as a "displacement" and consequent dysfunction within yourself .....a result of humankind's unwanted "scientific betterment"....your reference to 40 yrs tells me an an appx age window.......but, as it's said, "life goes on"......I hope you find some semblance of peace in your remaining years on this wretched planet....and maybe your next life will be better.

Perhaps a bit of ironic humor may temporarily ameliorate your painful regrets

Excerpt from link below (page bottom):

According to vom Saal et al.; "It is well established that during fetal life, hormones have marked effects on subsequent social behaviours. ... Therefore, perturbation of systems that differentiate under endocrine control may result not only in the disruption of organ function, but also of an individual's social interactions. These effects on social behaviours may be dramatic. If animals within a population all show changes in social-sexual behaviours, marked disturbance in social structure can occur."

The issue here, regarding chemicals affecting psycho-sexual behaviour is that humans created their then designated “abnormal” and "defective" offspring with consequently tagged abnormal gender and sex characteristics, most notably in sex-gender related behaviours….i.e “gender benders”. My gripe pursuant to my former snide posting is that we are now cursed as queers and freaks of natures by the same society that “created” us. Not withstanding health issues, can we be accepted as fellow human beings and function “normally” in society or are we now by virtue of endocrine disruption an extended version of a societal disruptor? ....disturbing the normal dichotomy of sex and gender and viewed and treated as “its” and psycho-socially disruptive of the "normal" world. Where is the love and humanity that so many human beings vomit that cannot let “gender benders” live within the their “normal” world....and leave our minds alone! Yes, the physical health effects of chemicals and other endocrine disruptors are dangerous to society….BUT, the "gender-bending" offspring of humankind’s folly ARE NOT.
