Hi All... These last few days have been both exciting, and trying. As I may have mentioned, I was able to find a doc who verified my situation, and, even more importantly, was willing to Do Something to help me.
Tuesday, Nov. 6th, I had my one testis (1/4 the size of normal) removed, and he re-established the vaginal opening (he indicated there was much internal scarring)...But.... its DONE. There's No going back. Fortunately, no serious pain, just soreness and discomfort.
Then, yesterday, Wed. the 7th, I Legally returned to my Birth Name - Denise, along with establishing my middle name as Wynona. I must add here - Almost everyone that has been involved in this journey has been extremely supportive and understanding.
Another ray of hope is that there was a young woman who was under the doc's tutelage, and we had a lengthy discussion about how Intersex is treated. She insisted that the treatment for children with these conditons is Much different these days. She also said that she had attended a session where a Intersexed person (CAH female identified) gave a talk to her class, and provided a strong argument Against early 'assignment', particularly in a surgical sense. (was this You Betsy??? - Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine)
Unfortunately, as we all know from some recent postings here on BLO, there are still places where these surgical attacks on infants still occur, but, hopefully, to a much lesser degree than in the past.
