Hello,
I am currently a senior undergraduate at Penn State University. I am researching a thesis entitled, "The Gendering of the Intersexed in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries," to graduate with honors status in the field of History, specifically the History of Science. Some issues that I am focusing on for this paper include the opinions of the intersexed themselves, concerning how they personally feel that they should be gendered. Thus far, I have focused this primary research on articles that I have reading quoting people who are intersexed, but I feel that the strongest research would come from actual interviews. I realize, however, that this is not feasible, as I have limited means of traveling to conduct interviews. I would like to offer a questionnaire to anyone who is intersexed, asking about your own feelings on several issues, including the creation of a third gender, as well as what ideally would have happened to you in your youth (for example, if you were operated on, how you feel about this, etc.) I am posting on this message board in hopes that someone--or ideally several people--would be willing to help me out. I will be working on this thesis for several more months, and I am will gladly offer to give people full editing rights to any comments or answers to questions that they may offer me, prior to the completion of the document. I would also be very willing to accommodate anonymity, if you would prefer that. If there is anyone who reads this and would be willing to answer a brief questionnaire for me, please email me. Please feel free to reply with any questions that you may have, or if you know of any better means to gather the information that I desire.
Thank you in advance for you help.
Sincerely,
Tracylnn Hahn
