View Full Version : Crisis!

Bit by a spider again. 2nd time this week. i swelled up and "stress dosed" with pred. the first time. Made it. this time the swelling didn't go down. my arms (where the bites are) have gone numb and my face is getting there. i've called my MD cause the ER charges a fortune and i have some time before this gets critical.... but not much.
I'm swilling banana/strawberry/orange juice as fast as i can drink it and eating very salty corn chips.... got my sodium and potassium covered.
PS...
I just got an EXTREMELY irate phone call from Kelly Leight @<hidden> cares...
she's threatening to sue me for posting @<hidden> CAH sisters yahoo group that cares once recommended abortion
the truth is, it did once.
since the site over-haul, it no longer does.
Anyone know how i can get in touch with betsy?
she has long experience with this woman, and i think i need her help.
I hope you're ok now?
I can't actually help with anything in your post but I really hope you're ok

>>> yes Jos, now i am, thank you.
I was on-line and posting to the CAHsisters @<hidden> yahoo board while it was going on when kelly leight from cares sees my "actually quite flattering post" (says 3 other posters off-list) with its 2 small caviates......
the woman goes ballistic, calls me up, screams in my face soooo loud
that my very deaf landlady, on the other side of this very large house
hears every word, and wonders is she should call the police!
while i'm in the middle of crisis.
Anyway, my landlady took me to the doctor cause i was in no shape to drive. A shot in the ass of cortisol, plus horse pills to wean back down with.
I was a awake from the shot for hours, then crashed..... and slept for 12.
I never sleep like that unless i'm deathly ill.
I'm still feelling weak, but i'm rather hopeful. I have a local endo appt. the 28th. and hope to Godde i can get a cortef pen so i can nip this crap in the bud.
I'm assuming that the only reason crisis is so bad is because of the treatment time lag, yes? other-wise it can be head off without many complications?
I'm one smart chick, but i am STILL learning.
thanks again. i really appreciate the concern.

what kind of bites are they? that is very scary if you are having such a severe reaction to them!

[QUOTE=des10ed2b;14809]what kind of bites are they? that is very scary if you are having such a severe reaction to them!
>>> spider bites. not widows or recluses, but common jumping spiders. they don't spin webs, there small (about the size of a nickel) black, with yellow stripes on there legs.
I'm not mad at the spiders. They bite when "there" territory is invaded.
unfortunately, that includes most of the outdoors ;) i'm told i should wear long sleeves (i'm usually bit on the upper arm) but what about my face? (another common target)
the way i see it, if i had a cortef pen, it wouldn't be an issue. i'd just get a small welt like everyone else.
what happens to really muck things up, is that when a "normal" person has an allergic response, there bodies pump out lots of.......
CORTISOL!
this mediates the immune response. my body doesn't do that, so instead of a welt, body parts start swelling up like a balloon.
If that weren't enough, my body uses up what little cortisol it makes during this time and shoves me into..... adrenal crisis!
neither the swelling nor the crisis is benign. the only saving grace is that it happens slowly, over the course of hours..... it would be immediate if i were a 21 or an 11.
I'm glad you're recovering now.... it sounds like you really need to get it sorted.... I mean, "wearing long sleeves" doesn't sound like a particularly reliable solution to me.
I guess you already heard the statistics that the average person swallows six spiders a year!!!..... some of em might bite on the way down?
Anyway, really glad to hear you're better for now

>>> me neither. but that's what the "un-out-doorsy" types advise. Suuuuuurrre. they've never planted 300X3 feet of peas, 300 of carrots, 300 of turnips..... where the devil do these people think there food comes from? i work on a farm part-time because i like to eat, and fresh food is part of my pay. <<<<

Jos said I guess you already heard the statistics that the average person swallows six spiders a year!!!.....
I've heard that statistic. And I've also heard it said that it's complete nonsense (the average person swallows no spiders in his/her whole life), and that the rumour only kept going round because it sounded so implausible that people remembered it (rather like the rumour that Hitler was a vegetarian (except for the spiders, of course))
True it does sound like a difficult thing to gather stats. on..... there's tribe which considers the most poisonous terrantula a delicacy, maybe they're skewing the figures!

Phew, that is a relief.
Did you get a little warning braclet too?
or do you have to get that sort of thing for yourself?

how did you know it was a spider bite?
>>> you mean besides the fact i can see two tiny punture wounds in the center of the rash, that has caused my entire limb to blow up like a balloon?
Oh, only that this has happened at least once a year (one year three times in as many weeks..... its what led to my dx) and its quite painful and itchy. <<<
i have this big rash thing im not sure if its a spider bite
>>> do you live or work in a rustic setting? two tiny punture wounds? <<<
or lime.
>>> as in lyme disease? i had that once. nasty. you could get tested you know. if its lyme's, the rash will go away..... that's the good news. the bad news is that its not gone (its a very nasty spirochette) just out of sight. you need to get some anti-biotics for it, because letting it stay in your body for years is a really bad idea. can you say "crippling arthritis in two years?"
i am scared.
>>> you should be. have a pro look at it. <<<

Hi,
>> spider bite? <<
We've had MRSA infections in 3 ot of 4 family members in the past year. NOT TO BE TRIFLED WITH! Get it cultured.
MRSA skin infections can start out looking like a bug bite with a raised scabby bump the size of a maybe a quarter. Google it to see what it might look like.
Even if it IS a spider bite, you can get a MRSA infection any time the skin is compromised. A huge chunk of the populaion carries a MRSA colony in their nose and on their skin all the time, and it's just waiting for a chance attack through the skin and then spread to your vital organs and KILL you. One of my kid's teachers DIED 6 months ago in the hospital after a liposuction because the incision site got infected and it spread to her organs.
HELL YES I'm trying to scare you. Get treatment.
LOVE,
-Ron

lol. yep. my whole family of 3 ended up with MRSA earlier this year. when i had my first 2 abscesses i was told it was a brown recluse bite. then my 2 year old got one, but it had popped and there was nothing left to culture. so they just diagnosed it as staph. then my husband got them, then me again. it was horrible. we ended up in the ER with my husband who had 3 abscesses at once and was having massive hot and cold chills. THATS when someone finally listened to us and we got the diagnoses of MRSA. it was awful. i took a lot of photos of everything though. for that very reason. i wanted everyone to be aware of what happens. it was awful. when i had an abscess i would get it open. no sitting around. but my husband just let them sit until they broke on their own and his ended up horrible. we all have awful scars from it. my husband looks like he's been shot in the leg.

>>> haven't heard from her since. i suppose i could write another post about CARES at the site, but as much as i would enjoy her apoplexy *wicked grin* i don't want to upset the site founder who is a nice gal feeling caught in the middle of a feud.
I did speak my peace however, when a poster repeated something Kelly said without bothering to use qualifiers.....
Kelly is trying to spread the notion that ALL those claiming to have 3-beta are just 'posers.....
You KNOW i had fun with her use of the word ALL ;) lol.
And then i had fun with the link she posted to "prove" her point.
It never ceases to amaze me how folks will find stuff to "prove" what they are saying... they don't much care that the info comes from say... the flat earth society, or that its written by dr. bozo de clown, or that there info is either not applicable ( ie. 3-beta is not LOCAH, and i never said it was) or horrifically out of date.
hard enough to be responsible for what we DO say. who can be responsible for the words another IMAGINES we say?
Sometimes people just won't allow themselves to admit they might have become.... blinkered.
But pleased to hear she's not taking it to another level now
and, in a way, at least while she is openly saying such things it gives you the opportunity to point out why she's on the wrong track!
.... :0) i can hardly talk after my spider comment :pat: doh
but yeah, you'd think someone putting themselves 'forward' would be a little more careful with their reputation than that, seems like common sense
the main thing is you sound fighting fit again so that at least is good to hear
