Hello, I have 19 years old, I'm from Mexico, and I have non-salt losing CAH, I don't have any surgery, but some doctors say maybe I need one...
The doctors suspended me the medication(meticorten) 3 years ago, but I read in some web-page -the medication is for live- this is true?, or only in some cases?
I hope you understand this message, because I don't speak english very good...
Hi Luna,
Don't worry - your English is vastly better than my Spanish!
Is there a reason you think you need surgery? Usually having surgery makes sense only if something doesn't work right, or if there is something you want changed about your body.
Did your doctor explain why you stopped taking the medication? Meticorten is a brand of prednisone, and I thought it unusual to stop taking that. Community, isn't that right?

Your English is fine enough, so please don't worry about that.
More important than what the doctors think...
What do you think?
It is hard to have a body that is different, especially as you begin to have intimite relationships with others. But, the surgeries can affect the sensitivity you have now, and when you fall in love, you'll find that looks don't matter that much. We fall in love with people ~ not pretty or normal looking genitals!
It is more important to feel comfortable with yourself and proud of all that you are.
Good Luck!
Janet
Hi Luna,
There are many different types of CAH. You may have one that doesn't need the medication. Chances are, if you "needed" the meds, your body would be telling you.
Welcome to Bodies Like Ours!

Thanks to all!
I really don't know if something doesn´t work right with me, because I never had sexual relations. But my body is diferent, I have the clitoris a little bit bigger than normal, and the vagina and the uretra are in the same "conduit", also doctors say I need a vaginal dilations.
And I don't know why I stopped taking prednisone, they only say I don't need it any more...but also say I will need it if I get pregnant.
Luna,
Don't worry... I have no trouble understanding you. Have you gotten the opinion of more than one doctor? The question is do you want surgery? Do you want vaginal dilations? I understand those are painful for some. Perhaps it would help to discuss it with others who have CAH.
About the prednisone, I would research whether taking it would affect the baby. I would be concerned that it might cause harm to the babies genitalia or andrenal glands and might create an intersexed baby.
My urethra opens at my vagina and I have some extra sort of organ there. Though doctors never had been 100% sure if I might have CAH or what caused this.
Good luck!

When I was pregnant, they actually increased my meds because my body needed it. I was told that since the meds were 'replacement' dosages for what my own body didn't produce, it would have no affect on my baby. CAH is genetic and therefore can't be caused by meds. The father had been tested before we tried to get pregnant, and he was not a carrier, although my children carry a recessive gene that could affect their children if the other parent is also a carrier.
