Where is everyone is from? I know it is on our profile info, but maybe you didn't fill that part out. I thought it would be neat to do it in a thread. Also, since a big part of what we do is try to help everyone know of at least one other person in their neighborhood, it can help. Even if you don't post often (or not at all), tell us where you are.

I'll start: Tewksbury, NJ which is about one hour due west of NYC via car.

I am from Venus & Mars ( LOL )
Seriously sometimes I have felt that way. I am from east central Wisconsin where the seasons are few, we have Winter and the Fouth of July, Tonight it will only be 9 degrees below zero with a wind chill factor of -35 below, Kind of sounds like Antarctica doesn't it. I should add that I know there is others like myself in the area just haven't been able to locate them. I hope that through boareds like this I will find others near bye.

Hi, Debbie here. Mom of 9 yr old intersexed child - Kelli.
We are from Southern New Jersey. We're in a small little town (well growing bigger and bigger everyday though) which was discovered by the king of Sweden. We live by a lake and love our neighborhood. We're bout 25 mins away from Delaware and 40 mins from Philadelphia and about an hour from Atlantic City. I guess now you'll all know exactly where we are because of such details...hehe...not! LOL
thanks all.

I'm in Rochester, NY on the shore of Lake Ontario which is now 9 degrees ABOVE zero rather than below it, but we're still buried under a mountain of snow. It's a fairly large city, the home of Eastman Kodak and Xerox and has the largest GLBTI population in the northeast outside of NYC. My partner and I grew up three blocks from each other and had the same 1st grade teacher a year apart.

Ahhh...you practically have a heatwave there! Thankfully, it warmed some today here in NJ...but Monday is supposed to be brutal and I have to be in NYC, on the very far west side. Those winds start wooshing through those canyons and it sucks!

But I found this most interesting:

has the largest GLBTI population in the northeast outside of NYC
I would never have guessed that

Normally Flagstaff would be colder than any of you with a windchill of -20 to -30 below. However we have had 50 deg weather for past two weeks. Yet at Christmas, we had 18 inches of snow. It's still down in the 20's at night, so a lot of snow is still lying around in the woods (making it hard to go for a walk I might add).

I am from Canberra Australia. It's very hot here right now, it was 40 degrees Celcius today, about 107 F I think. We've had some big bushfires that destroyed 536 houses in one day (Saturday) last week end and there are still fires to the north east and south of the city. I actually drove past one today.

Um, a request for people on the group; I find it quite frustrating that Americans use state or city abreviations. I'm sure you learn them all in kindergarten, take tests on them every couple of years or so and have pop quizzes at random national alegience checks ;) . But the rest of the world does not. Considering that WWW stand for WORLD wide web, could you please use full locations for those 95% of the world's population that does not live in the United States.
What is GA, MD (Medical Doctor?), Ky Tx and Wva? I guess TX would be Texas?

I have to admit I'm kind of frustrated that I seem to be the only active Non American on the list. I have found that on other lists I subscribed to I generally get a "here's some Australians elsewhere you can speak to" treatment and no one else speaks to me. This is so very frustrating as I expect I have a lot of common experiences and have the need to talk about them.

Wohali
01-26-03, 11:37 AM
Hey Girlyboy I like your name! You are absolutely on target there. We Americans do have to submit to random pop quizzes to see if we remember the state abbreviations. Yes TX is Texas, as in "All My Ex's Live in Texas". GA is Georgia, KY is Kentucky & MD is Maryland. I don't know what the heck Wva is. I live in AZ- Arizona. Now if you can memorize all 50 states abbrevs we can induct you as an honorary US citizen. :)

G'day mate!

Giner

Hey Girlyboy
WV now.(West Virginia). It used to be Wva. Some people still use it. If you have any questions about the abbreviations, I will let you know what they are.

Hi Girlyboy...NJ=New Jersey. People from NYC (New York City) need a visa to visit.

We are also known as the turnpike state and the tollbooth state. Those of us who live far from that highway madness don't do anything to change those perceptions. We figure if we can make them think NJ ends just west of the turnpike, they won't come or get off the next exit.

Sorry...some regional humor...

Surprisingly I have been to New Jersey, to both Newark and Jersey City..... I did not need a passport leaving New York, but I was asked if I had one when coming back. I was then asked if I had a criminal record, to which I replied... "No, do I need one to get into New York?" :D This was on September 11 last year.

I have also been to Los Angales, Pheonix, Chicago, Detroit, Gary, Fort Wayne, Toledo, Cincinnati, Columbus, State College, Washington, Greenville, Blacksburg and New York. ... I really want to see Rochester and perhaps some more of the US.

As for visiting Australia, Ashley and Beach, where will you be going? I could perhaps show you around if you are not meeting anyone. It is always nice to know a local.

I am in the suburbs of Chicago. I moved here recently. The night I moved there were six police cars in front of the building for a drug bust...definately time to move. Right now I feel really isolated out here in the suburbs but at least I am near my sister. Even sisters cant be with you ALL the time. I wish I could answer "who am I?" as easy as "Where am I?"

Joking of course...but sticking with the regional humor...thankfully I don't live anywhere near the turnpike...for me it would be exit 24 off the 78 and then a bunch of one lane country roads...turn left at the red barn, go 1/4 mile past the henhouse...yeah, you get the idea...

I like the concept of country lanes. I wish we had more country lanes, particuarly in the city. :p

It must be nice to have your own space. I always like a little time by myself, so thankfully I can get away into the bush where no one ever goes. Well very rarely at least. Though I generally appear as male I have some very nice breasts, and on a hot day it can be stifling to have to wear a top. It is much more enjoyable to just wear a bra with no t-shirt. I have some interesting tand lines belive me. It's also fun to go swiming in the local river. I can't really go swimming in public. I get some rather obnoxious harrasment if I do. So out in the middle of nowhere I can be myself. Sadly though, I think bushfires may have burnt out one of my favorite places to go.

Country ,
Yes it is nice to be away from it all, Country IS
reminds me of a story .
I went to Va beach last summer and was soaking up the rays . Being from the midwest where the Polar bears play I had to get to the beach .
I had stayed at a nice hotel which had a pool . It was wonderful , the nicest part is that we had the hotel all to ourselves. no many vacationers around the holiday ,The 4th of july was a day I will never forget . I had been in the pool swimming and floating just cooling off I think it was 98 that day with a heat index of 106.
The dreaded family reunion was about to begin. I went up to the hotel room and changed to prepare for the reunion.
When I arrived at the reunion I was approched by my cousin had replied I had better wear a shirt the next time I swim in the pool.I thought to myself what does she mean by that comment.
It did not dawn on me that she was hinting about my pecs lol .
I think if I visit the beach again I will make sure the family reunion is not going on ,I do not want to get any one jealous. lol

AZ1,
Glad you can laugh at her! What unmittigated gaul. Too bad you didn't tell her that the next time she goes out in public she'd better wear a bag on her head. Interesting that she's seen so few men without shirts on that she's suprised to see one with boobs. It's not exactly uncommon for pity's sake. Oh, maybe that's because she HAS BEEN WEARING THE BAG ON HER HEAD... I'm so clever. Gotta laugh.

Go for it!

Hey there Glenn. We're practically neighbors. I am from Swedesboro. Exit2 on the turnpike. :-) I live only 5 minutes from the turnpike (AHHHHH...LOL..ohhhhh noooo a turnpikerrrr.)
I am also exit 13A off of rt 295.
I don't know that you know me. But I post once in a while. I am a board member of Bodieslikeours. I am the 41 yr old mom of an intersex child- Kelli. She is 9 yrs old. She has had 4 surgeries (these were done in my uneducated, led along blindly by docs days). I now advocate to end the shame and secrecy etc and to help stop infant genital mutilation. I have helped in making 2 very educational videos (with Intersex Society) and am interested in getting to know those from the intersex community. I am alos interested in helping other parents to speak out and support their children as well as the intersex community.
Just wanted to introduce myself and let you know we're neighbors. Maybe ,what?, 20 mins away from each other-perhaps 30 mins .?
Take care..and Hello to all who have posted. I enjoy meeting everyone and getting to know a little about them.

I appeared and was interviewed in "rediefining sex" (kelli was also introduced in this video)....and I also participated in the newest '''teaching film'''... "Total Patient Care: the interesex child".
Both can be purchased from ISNA (ntersex society) or Bodieslikeours for a donation. They are both very educating. I was so afraid to speak out but was ok after i got started. We managed to get across both times exactly what I wanted too. I was pleased with the oputcome of each. I have already seen what the newest video does to audiences when they hear the story from a 'real' perspective.
If you get a chance, I urge you to see them. Your donations will help ISNA and Bodieslikeours keep functioning and helping the intersex community.
Thansk for asking Glenn!

Hi...Sarah here. I live in Syracuse NY, which is a 2 hour drive from where Jim lives in Rochester. We have Oneida Lake to our northeast and Skaneateles Lake (new favorite vacation spot of Bill & Hillary) to our southwest. We also have Onondaga Lake right in the city, which is enjoying a renaissance now after years of chemical dumping & neglect.

I've lived here all my life, except for 3 years in Simsbury CT where I attended a boarding school and 3 years in Palm Beach County FL (yes, "butterfly ballot" Palm Beach County) where I went to radio school and worked as a radio announcer.
