Hi,

There is a small movement recently to push for more support for "women's" athletic programs. The 30-year-old bill called Title IX forced many places to create such programs where none existed before. The Secretary of Education, Rod Paige, can be contacted to encourage further support of Title IX programs.

His email is Rod.Paige@<hidden>, and here is the letter I just sent him. Don't know if the title for him is correct, but it's reasonable. For more info, seach for 'Title IX' at www.ed.gov.

Dear Mr. Secretary,

Please continue to support women's athletics by improving the enforcement of Title IX. As you can see practically every day in the PGA battle against female athletes, we desperately need to encourage women and girls to be physically active.

In addition to the obvious physical benefits, athletic programs help develop self confidence, ability to focus on problem solving, and a sense of teamwork and cooperation. Only the most pathetic of males would discourage women from being healthy and confident.

The disparity in commercial support for female athletes versus male is tremendous; often a factor of ten or more funding goes to men than women. Without continued support from Title IX, many women's sports programs will disappear.

Your 'Commission on Opportunities in Athletics' recently published recommendations to strengthen Title IX. Please devote the resources needed to implement those recommendations.

Thank you!
