My name is Suman, and I am a final year undergraduate student at Leeds Metropolitan University in the U.K., studying Counselling and Therapeutic studies.
I am in the final stages of completing my degree. To get my ‘Honours’ I have to complete a final project on the topic of my choice with relation to the course.
If you feel that you will be willing to share some of your experiences with me to help me with my research please read on! It will be greatly appreciated.
I think you will agree with me that there are still a lot people who need to know and learn about this issue. I certainly was not aware of the severe psychological distress that has been caused in the past to mistreated children and adults.
My aim is an investigation into the experiences of intersexed people. I want to know more about experiences concerning the attitudes of others, what kind of help or support is offered or sought and how.
My task is to complete an 8-9000 word document based on this aim.
Your task is to be kind enough to participate in my research!
I have got some answers for my project with material I have read in some books and on the Internet. But I would like to have some primary information to include in my project.
Below are the questions I would like to ask you. Please answer the questions you feel comfortable answering. If you would like to add anything not included in the actual question, please feel free to do so.
You do not have to restrict your answers. I have not given any designated space for your answers, you can write as much as you like. Just copy and paste onto a new e-mail, starting with the asterix* and type away!
When answering, please bear in mind that, the answers you give I intend to include in my project, so please do not forget to consent to this at the bottom of the page.
When you have returned your answered document to me, your personal details will NOT be used in my project. i.e. name, e-mail address etc. These will be kept safely in my possession until my project is complete and then destroyed. Each participant will be given a letter and number, i.e. C5, to maintain anonymity.
Lastly, please remember you are under no obligation to participate in my research. You can withdraw at any time. Preferably before 23rd April, submission week. No one except me will see your name with your answers.

If you have not already, please tell me about the social aspects of your experiences, i.e. the attitudes and responses of others towards you. This can include family, friends, teachers, medics etc.
Have you ever been offered/ suggested, or have you yourself ever considered counselling or therapy?
If you have had counselling, therapy or any other form of support, can you please tell me about your experience of it? e.g. helpful, unhelpful, was the counsellor/therapist knowledgeable about your situation and needs? How did you feel before you had support, and how did you feel during and/ or after?
