has this story been looked into by anybody? I'd like to know why this doctor has only been suspended for two months if he mutilated a patient who I assume did not want such a thing done, in front of witnesses (i.e. the staff and such of this hospital or doctors around him)....I'd say this shows that even adults might not be safe from medical mutilations....am I underststanding this story correctly?
There's a bunch of articles on the web about it. (http://news.google.com/news?ie=utf8&oe=utf8&persist=1&num=30&hl=en&client=google&newsclusterurl=http://www.healthtalk.ca/surgeon_anger_07172004_8993.php)
We are not talking about the US...who knows what the medical licensing situation is like in Romania? There's also some reporting discrepancies on what actually occurred.

What I find amazing about the story is not that the man's penis was cut off, but that a medical professional might actually be held accountable for his actions. I don't know the case law, and Romania is far away, but any future legal ruling holding the doctor accountable for the medically un-necessary removal of a patient's penis would be a step in the right direction. It's too bad that only the most sensational cases of genital multilation are considered newsworthly, and that IGM procedures on intersex children, as were done on me, are still regularly performed in the United States.
