I like the new BLO format, especially the colors: powder blue and Christmas colors ( user CP/private msgs). ....there's only one small thing:....the smilies boxes aren't functional (boxes with little red X's).....Betsy, you know I can't live without smilies!!

Dana, I know you like the colors, but I'm kind of crunching over them. Suggestions?

brighten it up some?

leave the colors alone?

I'm also hoping to add a news feed into the scheme soon as well. it's time to learn RSS anyways.

Gee, Betsy, I do like the powder blue background as it is easy on the eyes. But maybe green and reds are too much contrast, now that I am thinking in terms of balancing (complementing each other) colors. I'm for cool and warm colors whatever the combo might be.....maybe some input from other members would be useful. And designing a website can be a bit like decorating a home....so I am providing this link for more color ideas (along interior decorating ).....I'll look at it myself, but colors that affect mood and bring a good feel to this forum would be ideal.....color ergonomics:

What about this concept...

http://www.bhg.com/bhg/story.jhtml?storyid=/templatedata/bhg/how-to/data/15030.xml&categoryid=/templatedata/bhg/category/data/Decorating_Color.xml&page=4

Click on the picture of the room to enlarge it.

I'm thinking peaceful blue is a little too placid...and lacking energy; flirtatious red  ...I don't think so.....nurturing neutrals are nice and "earthy" But ..the above color combo is refreshing and exudes a lot of life.....playing around with hues and tints of those colors should be innovative and different i.e. soften the brights a bit and still keep an "interesting mix"

I would prefer a light grey background (like in the editor) as it provides maximum contrast without being too bright.

Combining red, green or blue would make reading very fatiguing, because the receptors in human eyes are placed in different layers. While you focus on red, green and blue becomes unsharp and vice versa.

Anyway, it's the content that's most important

I like this lilac and/or lavender with warm earth colors in a simple arrangement........ ......Sofie would like this website, huh, Sofie!?

Ouch

Click on the back button to view many more room and color (pastels, primary etc) combos....this is a very versatile and beautiful webpage

Sofie has a point: "reading very fatiguing"........reading is different than "lounging" in a room or an artistic piece.....guess I got carried away with all the kaleidoscope of colors  ....so ....peaceful blue like here would work:

It's really difficult to do a color scheme. My guess is that the new color scheme comes from VBulletin as a default choice. Do they have other alternative "skins" that we can look at? The new color scheme is very professonal. I recently viewed the entries in an international contest for new "skins" for a computer software based music recording studio, and what we have now is top drawer. You rarely find better.

My own choice would be to replace some of the violet with a light neutral grey, Also the blues in the bars could be toned down somewhat, and replaced with a purer hue. The blues look somewhat muddy to me. Also, I believe that the page should have less overall contrast as it is too busy on the eyes. Those are some of my thoughts.

That said, the real skill is translating it all into a harmonious layout That is where I am all thumbs. Perhaps we can get Sofie to work on a new skin, or have a Bodies art contest and invite entries from around the world.

Thanks Betsy for the vbulletin link. I checked out vbulletin.org. They just announced a winner in their own "Style Contest", and interestingly enough the winning entry is a skin called "Smooth Blue" which incorporated most of my recommended revisions. Smooth Blue uses Sofie's ideas for grays and my idea for purer hues of blue. Anyway, it is available for viewing on the vbulletin site. I think it is worth a look.

I checked out the vbulletin link and viewed their different color (skin) schemes, including the "winner". I let my eyes do the deciding (after reading) and found the vB3 Grey style ( that's what we have now, I think) to be the most comfortable...but then, I have light-sensitive eyes. The green and orange were a bit "straining", so Sofie was right about that. The light tan/light grey-blue combo on the Reply to Thread "page" is fine too..................BUT let's not "mess with" the smilies :umno:

Playing with some colors---lol I said I liked bright. I am not gonna mess around with the panel colors (where the posts are) as I agree with Sofie about the perception issues.

I'll need to do the buttons to match once we settle on some colors. I can also back off on the saturation of the bright colors.

I've also played around with some backgrounds. If you scroll the way down to the bottom of the page, you can change them. The one I liked and loaded is called spawn. The default skin is the one with the long name and 'bodies preferred' is the silver one.

Buttons are done, therefore, except for a couple of really minor hacks I'm still working on, everything should be done.

I gotta tell ya, I really respect people who write code for programs after three days of digging through it to change some stuff.
