I read on the boards just a short time ago about low salt levels in the body - my endocrinologist has told me from blood tests that I also have dangerously low salt levels in my body - I believe it causes leg cramping and the person who wrote about it said they eat a bag of potato chips when this happens but I don't believe it has anything to do with salt intake of that kind - If anyone has info please respond - I am taking 0.1 mg of Florinef but also my nutrionist has increased my vitamin E and I really don't know which one has worked but I don't get leg cramps any longer.
I don't know if this has anything to do with my ACH or not but any info would be appreciated
Thanks in advance, Connie

Eating additional salt is a great way to combat low salt levels. I've known several CAH women to carry salt in their bags, and use it liberally at every meal.

I also take .1mg florinef, but if I'm doing heavy work or am spending time in the sun, I make sure not to miss my dose so I don't get an energy drain.

I think all of us salt wasters have different symptoms when our levels get low, and may not even attribute what we're feeling to our levels. Also, I've always been told that if I have a craving for salty foods, I shouldn't ignore it. Pretzels are a great low fat method of salt delivery!

Connie,

Yeah, I posted about eathing potato chips. They're a great source of sodium and potassium. I've tried vitamiins without success. My cortisol levels were normal the one time they measured them and my doctors don't want to do an ACTH challenge. Could be kidneys I suppose. Till I find a doctor who is willing to help me figure out why I need salt I'll keep eating it.

Cheers!
Jane
