I'm listening to an interview with John Prine on the radio right now and one of the songs he did live on the air is "Some Humans Ain't Human" and it just had me chuckling. It was the first time I had heard it and hearing him do it live on tape was a real treat in these early morning hours as I get caught up on the multitudes of email that fills my box on a daily basis.

While I've since changed my signature, I think many of you already know how I regard certain groups of people, particularly those who believe discrimination and hate is justified in their bible.

Over the years and even more so in the past few, I've really learned that it is really easy to be an idiot and a jerk and it's not so easy to bite your tongue and walk sometimes. Life is like that in many ways and particularly for those who are queer in America today and to an even extent those that are not hiding behind closet doors because the closet is "easier". In my heart I know that it is a deeply personal decision to be out as whoever you are yet I know for many, it is simply an act of cowardice because it is "less complicated".

The cowardice however is only the result of the actions of others, real or perceived.

That said, I wanted to share the lyrics of the John Prine song that gave me a good chuckle yet don't have that much to do with my little soapbox rant I just found myself typing out in a rather stark moment of impetuousness. The only association is recognition that it is about people who think we should all be in a closet nice and quiet.

Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
A few frozen pizzas
Some ice cubes with hair
A broken Popsicle
You don't want to go there

Some humans ain't human
Though they walk like we do
They live and they breathe
Just to turn the old screw
They screw you when you're sleeping
They try to screw you blind
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind

You might go to church
And sit down in a pew
Those humans who ain't human
Could be sittin' right next to you
They talk about your family
They talk about your clothes
When they don't know their own ass
From their own elbows

Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony
Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony

Spoken:
Have you ever noticed
When you're feeling really good
There's always a pigeon
That'll come shit on your hood

Or you're feeling your freedom
And the world's off your back
Some cowboy from Texas
Starts his own war in Iraq

Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
They lie through their teeth
With their head up their behind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
