I was channel surfing earlier this evening when I tuned into "One on One," a forum out of New Jersey hosted by one Steve Adubato. Tonight's topic was intersexuality, and Mr. A was interviewing Drs. Terry W. Hensle and Elizabeth Reiley. The URL for more information - including a videocassette of the program - is http://www.caucusnj.org/one-on-one/shows/hensle-reiley.asp (http://)
For the most part, the two doctors seemed to express old-school attitudes about the proper reaction to, and treatment of, intersex in infants: Someone who is phenotypically female but genetically male (or who has male gonads is male. And vice-versa. Ambiguous genitalia in a newborn is cause for panic. Surgery is the be-all and end-all. Ever-improving surgical techniques justify their usage. And so forth.
Drs. Hensle and Reiley are married. He's on the faculty of Columbia, as shown here:

She's due to appear in the near future at a conference that will include panels on intersex issues: http://www.espu.org/ola/session_view.php?mid=2&sid=14 (http://)
