Wondering what you think about the use of dex prenatally for the treatment of CAH and prevention of virilization. I see it as a quick fix for parents hoping to avoid their own discomfort of virilization. The few studies that have been done indicate side effects like small heads, severe bone loss. Yet, once again, just like surgery they tell parents that it is the cure-all for ambiguity and don't have any long-term follow-up studies to prove their point.

That's an interesting question, suprising how often doctors act like something is a known cure when they havnet done the research on it yet.

And I guess this is a little off the original topic, but what about in treatment? How does dex compare with cortef or anything else? I am on cortef and wondering what others are on and how it works.

Most days I take 8mg of prednisone a day. If I recall correctly, I was switched to pred when I became pregnant with my daughter 13 years ago. I've gotten fairly wise over the years regarding my meds, take more if I'm under intense stress, know the signs if I need more.

Long term, the side effects from prednisone is about the same as others.

Good Luck.
