I often get emails from people asking why we don't allow AOL addressed on our mailing lists. It's because something is either wrong with AOL, or something is wrong with AOL users that cause them to report as spam email they requested. Below is the latest nugget.
I'm one spam complaint away from banning AOL email from being used to register in these forums. We have never received a legitimate spam complaint, yet we get them from AOL users frequently. We don't get them from any other service providers---never have...not once.
Also, fair warning here: starting now, if you are an AOL user who marks email from us when you requested it as spam and I get a notice such as this, you will be banned from the forums. There will be no warning and no second chances.
I don't care if it is an accident, if it is a mistake...if you don't know how to use the AOL email interface, then don't use it.
I'm sorry for taking such a hard line, but this kind of stuff can cause to ban all aol users at the request of our hosting provider and it can cause our hosting provider to lose their network connectivity. My goal is only to protect the integrity of the site in this situation.

Educate yourself and/or those you may be sending email to on the
AOL Network about AOL's "REPORT AS SPAM" option. Note that AOL
does NOT review the email message for accuracy, forgeries, or
originating sender. This means that ANY message the AOL user
reports as spam will automatically be reported as such,
regardless whether it actually is spam or obviously is not spam.
The accuracy of the report is not considered by AOL in this type
of situation, nevertheless, AOL will block FutureQuest's Mail
Servers from AOL's Mail Servers if spam complaints continue.
