Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Advisory Committee
Seeks New Members
Application Deadline January 19, 2006
November 30, 2005
San Francisco, CA
The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Advisory Committee ("LGBTAC") of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission ("Commission") is seeking new members to serve on one of the Commission's most active committees. One of four standing committees, the LGBTAC identifies and addresses the issues and concerns of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, HIV, and intersex communities in San Francisco and advises the Commission on these issues.
The LGBTAC is looking for members who are community activists knowledgeable and skilled in such areas as racism, AIDS/HIV, anti-violence, civil rights, class, disability, diversity, education, gender, health, women's, senior and youth issues. The LGBTAC strives to achieve diversity and representation in its composition. Applicants must be residents of San Francisco.
Recently, the LGBTAC has focused on racism in the LGBT communities, immigration and asylum, gender identity policies, and intersex issues within the LGBT community. In the coming year, the committee has decided to focus on communities of color, the particular issues important to people of color in the LGBT communities, and how to address racism. The committee is co-chaired by Commissioners Cecilia Chung, Mark Dunlop, and Pat Norman. Commissioner Cecilia Chung stated, "We are looking forward to the coming year in which the LGBT Advisory Committee will provide a monthly forum for gathering information and discussing the challenges facing LGBT people of color."
Applicants must make a firm commitment to attend LGBTAC meetings on the third Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m., and to spend additional time on special projects. Interested persons must send a letter (by mail, fax, email, or personal delivery) detailing why they would like to serve on the LGBTAC, their community involvement and areas of expertise, and any other qualities they could bring to the LGBTAC. The correspondence must be received by the Commission no later than Thursday, January 19, 2006, 5:00 p.m. and be addressed to:
