Dear Betsy,
Was wondering if you even went to an endo any more?
The staff at my primary care seems much more interested. No, they don't have all the answers nor are they perfect. No, they didn't go to school for it but I think they would be fine in helping me with it and also with the thyroid condition.
I think maybe just the endo for biopsies for the thyroid and that's all folks.
Aimee
I had my thyroid checked when I got ill at the beginning of last summer and the levels were as perfect as can be. I have no reason to doubt that as I have no symptons of a malfunctioning thyroid. Even then, the only reason I had them checked was because of you and knowing about your problems with it. Ironically, I never consume iodized salt unless it is already in food I purchase prepared. I haven't bought it in ages.
Even in the hospital, I never saw an endo...it was handled by the GP doctor who was assigned to me (and was great) for the two days I was in. The ER did a kick ass job from what little I remember and from what GF told me afterwards. The only reason I was kept was because I was going into cardiac arrest during the adrenal crisis and while they knew they had stablilized me and the heart situation had gone away, they wanted to be sure and kept me hooked up to a monitor. I haven't experienced any cardiac issues since then that I am aware of.
In fact, I just got back from a 1 mile fast walk with my dog and damn, it is really fucking cold out. My toes and fingers were frozen; I really need to quit smoking but I wasn't out of breath.
I haven't seen an actual endo in probably 5 years. Meds come from an online source and I self-monitor. So far so good...no major hair issues, no weight gain, no zits, no shitty feeling except for the one time I got sick then which you know was my own fault or if I neglected to take my meds for a couple of days. It's winter though and summer may be more difficult but as long as I don't dehydrate myself again, all should fine. And this year, I got AC in my new apartment. I do have a script for florinef good until June of '06 which I should get filled. I haven't had any luck finding that online.
For those that buy stuff online...if you find florinef or fludrocortisone, please let me know.
I don't recommend my "course of treatment" to anyone. It takes a long time of paying attention to be able to do it and function and as you know if you have CAH, not taking proper care of yourself med wise can kill you. I'm not a doctor and only he or she and yourself know what is best for you, regardless of whether it involves them.

Dear Betsy,
Thank you for sharing - I tried to tell my endo that I was taking the hydro based on the way I felt ....I was ill at the time but also wanted to bring up taking what you feel is ok based on your own body at any time - he wasn't into that but HEY - I think you are on to something.
In the same manner I'm on this synthroid and I feel like it is to much- I'm edgy and just out of it ..that rushing feeling - I was hyper before and that is the way it is but I've had enough of medical offices/ hospitals and the system I fall asleep in them - the flow there seems to stand still.
