Yes everyone has heard the rumours about Jamie Lee Curtis, but I also have heard persistent remarks (mostly in AIS circles) that Kim Novak may be IS, CAIS to be specific.

Not that its any of my business, but it is heartening to know of others like ourselves, living successful and productive lives.

Just finished watching the restored version of Vertigo (Hitchcock's best IMO), and am reminded of just how talented and versatile Ms. Novak is. (Not to mention extremely beautiful as well!)

Yes, my Professor in Scientific Aspects of Psychology was convinced about JL. Kim's, status though, must be a well-kept secret.

Interesting!

I came across a British blog (Hollywood gossip) that insinuated Jodie Foster was intersexed (said "hermaphrodite")....if it's another urban legend and/or rumor is hard to tell.

There are distinct accounts of intersexed personages in the early 20th century, just it is not widely known, their life stories having sort of lapsed into obscurity:

Lili Elbe (47XXY): artist in Europe

Dr. Ewan Forbes-Semphill (male phenotype/ovo-testes):
Scottish doctor

Dawn Langley Simmons (male phenotype/internal female organs): British writer/novelist

And the rabbis said that Sarah and Abraham were too. The rationale seemed a bit obscure.

I wouldn't want to start a rumor about someone who has a much bigger pocketbook than I have, but, yeah, I have heard the one about Jamie Lee Curtis before. That much I would dare say. The same of Elizabeth Taylor.

But, has anyone heard of celebrity admitting (sorry for the choice of words) to being intersex?

April Ashley is one.

While it would be so great if someone famous (well, beside Dana) came out as IS, it hasn't happened yet.

On the Urgan Legends/rumours...until that person, no matter who they are, comes out and says I am intersex or I have this (insert IS medical condition), it remains just that: A rumour/urban legend.

Dawn, is April trans or intersex or both?

Betsy

Betsy, Now that I check the sources she does admit to being transsexual, but as far as her admitting to be intersexual, I have misspoken--again. I guess it seemed so obvious to me that I thought she said it.

Also this quote from another web site:

"n May 1960, at the age of 24, Jamieson presented himself at Dr Burou's 'clinique' in Casablanca and underwent an operation to change his sex. It was painful, but effective; it removed the penis that she did not want and provided her with the ability to have an internal orgasm. 'I was lucky. I had spontaneous breast growth.' "

She neglects to mention if she had ERT, but we T*s are such dreamers.

Hi Jules,

Thanks.

I have edited my original lengthy remarks down to the following.

"I can see that occasionally the IS community learns of confidential medical information through various sources. I believe that such information should be treated with the greatest respect."

Peter, I agree with your post about confidential medical information and the need to delete posts regarding same.

Dana?? You mean as in Dana International? I thought she was TS.

I agree. I had heard the KN rumor from an AIS group member in Massachusetts, and have heard it repeated by tihers in the AIS specific community. It was not my intention to reveal anyone's personal info without their permission. My apologies if I did so.

There are some web documents alluding to this, however. I will not mention them here.

There is indeed a fine line between "public info" and "confidential, private medical information."

Public stuff is out there, and by virtue of the fact that some stories are so ubiquitous hints that there may be a fire burning behind all that smoke.

However, the question remains: "Who started the fire?" Was it a celeb, revealing something to a friend (future Enquirer story), or to a publicist (let it slip out and deny it; it's still publicity), or a physician or professional who is expected to uphold an oath of profession regarding confidentiality?

There is a fine line. I laugh now at the new laws that prohibit using someone's last name at the pharmacy -- c'mon, the same people waiting behind me have heard my last name called before! That's called "shutting the barn door after the cows got out."
