View Full Version : Hi....Just found this
Hi there...I'm 27 and recently discovered this forum. I have AIS or Testicular Feminization as the doctor tells me. Didn't really know what it was until I read an article in Cosmo as all I was ever told was I was born without a uterus and couldn't have kids or menstrate. What a shock when I figured out what it really was. I am a sexually active female (with men). I guess I still have a lot of questions about my condition but somehow feel my endocrinologist doesn't really understand the condition fully. I felt my last endocrinologist did, however I wasn't even told the name of my condition by him until my last visit with him when I was 22 right before he retired. so then i had to find a new endocrinologist and didnt' really know what to tell them other than I had AIS. don't know if its AIS or PAIS but was also told Testicular Feminization. I think I'm surprisingly well adjusted mentally for having to go through this and basically figure it out for myself. And my parents did the best they could when i was growing up, for they weren't ever really told what I had either. I honestly don't know if they do now. We don't talk about it. Strict Italian catholic family you know. Do any other ladies out there have this? Do you see endocrinologists or regular docs? Do you have a gynocologist? Is there a need for one since you know, you don't really have all the parts? I'm so glad I found this place.
Jane,
So glad you found this site. While I don't know all there is about AIS/PAIS, I would suspect that if you didn't develop a penis, you are probably Complete AIS (CAIS). Unless, of course, you are aware of any surgery to remove it, then it may be AIS or PAIS.
I do know that there is a complete thread in the forum dealing with this very subject. Go to the 'Community Forums, and scroll down nearer the bottom.
Just the same, 'Welcome Aboard!'

Hi Jane,
So, you're from Sandy Eggo....I'm from Lost Angie-less:D
Take care.:)
Hi Jane,
Welcome to the forum. I too often wonder what my parents really know about my condition, besides what I have told them from recent doctor's examinations.
Cheers,
Peter
Hi welcome to this site,
I hope you find your answers,
As we all are asking,
My parents hid me from society, they did not want to deal with me or life. I have done my own thing and I have always been nice and get the best out of being IS as I can.
At times though it gets to be boring with now one to sit around and talk. This site will help you talk to others.
If you ever want to say hey I'll be here.

Hi Jane,
Testicular Feminization is just an old name for AIS. Have you contacted the AIS Support Group? They hold twice-yearly meetings.
Sometimes women are told they have AIS when they really have something else. One hint is that women with Complete AIS have no or very little pubic hair. Women with Partial AIS may have some. If you have a normal amount of pubic hair you might have one of a number of other conditions. (I'm told there are at least 5000 different IS conditions.)

Sandy Eggo ... oh, I get it!
*duh*
Welcome, Jane!
