What kind of boat did you get?

Just wanted to let you all know that I truly need and appreciate all your wishes and support. I try to stay focused, but have found it terribly hard to do so at times during the last number of months. Life is never easy, and who said it would, or should be. Thank goodness for Bodies - I don't know what I would have done otherwise.

The Boat...
In truth, I should ask, which one? But, to keep it simple; I'm currently trying to get the racing sailboat (ie - no motor!) ready for sailing. It's in a slight state of disrepair, but nothing insurmountable. Mostly rigging work, but there is a LOT of it in this type.

It's an olymic class two-person keelboat called a Star. Designed in 1911, but over the years the class has been quick to adapt new technology as it became available, so it is a very technical boat - a lot of strings to pull to adjust and fine-tune the shape of the sails, and thus changjng the 'balance', ie; how efficient it can transfer the wind action into forward motion.

I believe the web site is iscyra.org if anybody is interested. Mostly sailed by older white guys with money (which I don't have). I got this one very, very cheap - it's rather old, and truly is not adaptable to anything else. To be competitive, you need to have a gorilla of a crew, and the skipper should be about 225 or so. I definitely don't have the mass neccesary, but tend to be a good tactican - so as long as the wind is light to moderate, I can 'hold my own'. But, I cannot be competitive in the heavier air due to this failing. Fortunately, there isn't a lot of heavy weather sailing on Long Island Sound, especially in the summer.

Yes, I'd like to take in a drink or two (that's about my max) with you Jules - and you too, Betsy!. Particularly AFTER sailing - something of a habit I must admit.

Again, Thanks to All for the camraderi and community I have found here.
Wyn

Try this link for some great photos of star class racing; (I only hope that it works, as I have not been very successful in using the advanced features of this forum)
