Curves Membership

Just in case you want to join Curves, as the position themeselves to women only. I sent them an E-Mail with the following question:

"Women are welcome at your premises. What about Transsexuals?
What about Intersexuals? Can they be members too at your club?

Looking forward to your answer
With best regards
Ernesta Balmer"

Dear Ernesta,

Thank you for contacting Curves International. Please be advised that each of our franchisees are independently owned and operated.

Curves International does not attempt to interpret state and local laws regarding gender exclusion or inclusion in membership facilities. Our franchises are 100% independently owned and operated, and as such, franchise owners must make membership decisions based on gender that are consistent with their state and local laws.

If you have additional questions please contact the owner or manager of your local Curves. They will be happy to assist you.

Sincerely,
Kristi Fuller
Curves International

So far so good. I only thought that the discrimination act is Federal Law?

i don't even know what Curves International is.
According to the law we can be male or female. There is no such thing as a third gender ( but in reality there is ). Just look to your identity card: sex: male/female.
Companies just work the same. My opinion is that there should be 3 possibilties of gender: male , female or intersexed. Intersexed people should be able to to decide for themself to what group they belong.
I have a friend with AIS, she's broughed up as female and feels as a female, obviously she indentifies herself as a female when its upto gender issues. For me she is no different than any other girl.

You mean the way you look is important, or the definition on your drivers license? As far as I know there passed a new law, which forbids discrimination by the way you look ... even if your paper attests the opposite sex ...

Apparently this issue has come up before.

The non-discrimination laws are state/local, not federal. And I doubt Alabama has a transgender-inclusive nondiscrimination law.

The owners of curves are a husband and wife team of rabid zealots who donate only to republicans and anti-choice organizations. These are not people who are generally thought of as being allies to the IS, the TS, or the LGBT movement and vigorously fight against any efforts to ensure equality.

Even if they did accept trans people, would you want your monies to go to their causes?

Neko, I didn't know about this page. Thank you. I was just curious to learn about Curve's attitude. Personally I prefer my Tai Chi early mornig in the park. And it's free!
