tired and confused
Hello all,
I'm glad i've found this place finally. You see, i'm an 18 year old very confused about myself. I know i'm not "female" like i'm supposed to be. I've known for about 4-5 yrs now. I'm not sure what I am, but I know i'm tired of hiding it. I haven't told anyone, not even my parents. The thing that gets me though is the fact that I was born as a normal girl, the doctors I guess never noticed anything nor did my parents, I didn't even know until I was 13-14 and even then I didn't completely understand what I was until a little over a year ago I did some research and realized that I was intersexed. I don't want to live like this anymore and i've started doing some research on surguries to fix me. I just can't get over the fact that everything was perfectly normal until I hit the age where most people hit puberty, and then my body starts showing me that something's not right. I'm just really glad i've found this place, it feels so good to get these feelings off my chest. erewhon |
Welcome then :star: and what has persuaded you that you might be intersexed? (if it's not too embarassing) Knowing your symptoms might help us to point you towards more specific help and resources.

okay... well, I have very small, almost non-existent breasts, sometimes grow facial hair, I have a deeper voice than most females as far as genitalia goes it's quite similiar to this (it won't let me post url's, but if you search ambiguous genitalia under yahoo, it's the first picture from meddean.luc.edu) I hope this is what you mean or else I just made a huge overshare:outtahere .

Hello again,
Well the ambiguous genitalia makes you definately intersexed (or DSD) not that IS is so good to be, and it probably eliminates PCOS as the culprit. The facial hair and deeper voice mean that you probably don't have Androgen Insensitivity syndrome. Smaller breasts would maybe tend to indicate that you're not getting enough estrogen/progesterone. I can think of some scenarios, but first a few questions. You say that you've known something is wrong since you were 13-14. Hope this isn't too personal, but are your periods normal/irregular/non-existant? (2) Your genitalia is ambiguous now, but no one noticed before when you were a child; do you think that something changed, or that no one noticed it before because they were inattentive? (3) Have you been having any of the symptoms of adrenal problems? http://www.hmc.psu.edu/healthinfo/a/...ufficiency.htm **** Patients diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency typically experience fatigue and loss of energy, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, muscle weakness, dizziness when standing, dehydration, anxiety and depression. The patient may also notice increased bronze pigmentation of the skin and mucous membranes and decreased tolerance to cold. Women lose pubic and underarm hair and stop having normal menstrual periods. **** There aren't any "right" or "wrong" answers to the questions, they just help to narrow down the scenarios of what condition is troubling you. |
I came here for help so I have no problem answering questions.
1) periods are non-existent, my mom knows this and is really worried about it, she wants me to go in for a physical but i'm not sure how I feel about that. 2) I think something changed when I went through puberty, could be wrong though, I never noticed anything was wrong up until then. 3) I can't say I experience the adrenal symptoms, I have a normal energy level, I think, no weight loss, normal appetite, and I do have pubic and underarm hair. |
