Now you mention that it has made me remember something.
My old riding instructor used to have a young stallion that he did a lot of dressage on but which he was never intending breeding from. Strangely the stallion was always quite agressive towards human males (including him) and would get quite excited with human females but I remember it being commented on that it was always very quiet and well behaved with me, just allowing me to muck out and scratch his neck like all the others!
I know that wasn't quite what you ment but remembering it made me smile anyway!!
I still maintain that a new member to any established group of animals (humans included) would suffer a 'settling in' period.
It was quite sad to note that when I visited the rescue centre website, to find out more, they've got an out-break of strangles there...
