Documentary

Hello

I'm an Assistant Producer with production company Off The Fence. We are looking to develop a potential series following the lives of three teenagers with AIS. Its tough enough being a teenager and its a time filled with defining moments such as first kisses, first bra, the prom, losing your virginity etc

We want to tell the stories of three AIS teens and look at the challenges that they face and to myth bust the preconceptions about what intersex is. Ultimately we hope to show that it isn't about being a he or a she its about being happy being me.

If you would be willing to share your story I would love to speak with you or if you want further information about the project please just get in touch.

Thanks

Documentaries and Myths

Sounds kind of intrusive. Reality TV about shopping for underwear and a kid's early sexual experiences? What do you plan to do, follow them around 24/7 for a couple of years? Will they have to sign a contract agreeing to let the cameras keep rolling no matter what?

In the case of adults, I'm glad to let them decide for themselves in maters pertaining to privacy , but this is the kind of "opportunity" teens should not be led into by adults.

My impression is that the general public does not actually have much of a preconception about what intersex is, although some people do educate themselves and end up with a fairly accurate picture, mainly through text media. What I've seen in video "documentaries", though, actually tends to be misinformed and more likely to create myths than to dispel them.

This does not sound like a project I would feel good about supporting and for that reason I do not intend to help you find the guinea pigs you are seeking.

Friendly greetings to all,

Peggy

Friendly greetings to all,

Peggy
seriously peggy
you sound really aggressive because you are obviously really annoyed by misinformation of intersex issues
this persons intentions would be to do it right
so by coming on to BLO it could be the start of getting THAT accurate information
but instead on behalf of everyone on BLO you imeediately jump down this persons throat and if i were them ,i would be immediately put off by the sudden and irrational hostility
why do you feel the need to feel comfortable in making any others feel uncomfortable?

documentaries have to be done right
i cant wait till mine comes out
i cant wait for the commentary on how i perceive intersex and how misguiding you may see it as being
but the reality is ,art can be interpreted and documentaries can be disagreed with
i disagree with many documentaries where scientists believe certain things that i think are mere guesses rather than fact
and i am entitled to think that, and you are entitled to disagree
and you dont have to be ,nor were you asked or forced to having to be one of these guinea pigs
so.....take a deep breath....and recognise that starts must be made
but if we jump down peoples throats without cause or without thought then everyone gets nowhere fast....do you know what i mean,i am not against you but you seem to be fighting sometimes rather than discussing in here
and before everyone else says it
i do it too...hahahaha....something in common ,finally!
come on....lets get it together people!

As a person with AIS, Peggy's response to the researcher should provide ample feedback to inform their approach to their documentary topics for AIS teens, as a moderator in the forum I find her feedback perfectly appropriate. That's why this forum is separate from the rest of the BLO discussion areas, to give feedback to outsiders looking to study, ask questions, or request research.

I also agree that it is totally inappropriate to publicly air such intimate details of a child/teens life. The child certainly is not in a position to assess the long term risks of such publicity and I would have serious concerns about the motives of any parent/guardian agreeing to such intrusion.

If your intentions are genuine,I'd advise you to contact Phoebe at I saw this movie/documentary in Sydney a couple of months back and would highly recommend it

hey louisev
thanks very much for your fabulous information
but again i must say i know all about what you are saying
because i have been here online a long time

as a member and intersex activist
i find her feedback perfectly non appropriate
but we are all entitled to our opinions
i agree...."to give feedback to outsiders looking to study, ask questions or request research"
giving feedback is not impolitely jumping down someones throat
i accept that you are a moderator but in my opinion i think moderators need to be more neutral and keeping the peace!

i wonder will naomi come back and be happy with the responses

i highly doubt it
but again thats my humble opinion

i for one would love to hear from any researchers who are interested in intersex issues
thinking negatively seems to be a major trait amongst most who post regularly on BLO
lets change that.....wow!
