Thanks!

Thank you Peter for creating this space. I hope that those with DES who are already here will begin to post. i have sent an invite to others @ the yahoo intersexed group. I know of one gal @ intersexions (the OII group) who may like to come, but i can't post there...

So if anybody still over there can invite Boardwalk Angel to come, i'd appreciate it.

Hi, I am a des baby. Was googling the subject and found this place. I believe DES plays a role behind my gender issues.

I would like to learn more so I am here.

thank you for saying hello

but, I should add that I don't know how much any of us can tell you about Des, as I am sure you would have to educate us. MY own knowledge is only breif as it was discussed some in my developmental psychology course. the thread here is fairly new, and some of thought it would be nice to have a place to learn more ourselves as most of us are familiar with intersexed conditions, but less informed about Des, but also thought that we might share some similarities.

Hi Kailana,

My knowledge is pretty good in the area. But it dead ends at unproven theories that may never be proven. I was born "male" but by the time I was 5 my mother knew I was not like a boy in behavior.

Later in life I would not really develop as a male either. No adams applem, slight jaw line, short like other women in my family and the list goes on. Just no ambigious genitalia. Which threw my mother for a loop and it scared her.

I was 30 years old when she finally told me about the DES. At the time i thought it was just some small thing but as I learned more I found DES is known as a mutagen. I have a bio chemist friend who also told me it could very well re-write DNA.

It is my belief that I am a form of intersex but land in a very grey area.I have yet to have my chromosomes checked but plan too in a few weeks.

A nurse friend likened DES to a wild card. What it may do to one person it may not do to another. I got the Gender wild card I guess. I suppose that is better than the cancer card it deals to some people.

And we wonder why pregnant mothers should not take anything while pregnant?

Familiar with Des as a teratogen

Teratogen: Think i spelled that right, a chemical that interrupts normal development in a fetus. But honestly most I know tends to deal more with developmental anomolies dealing with the kidney's, adrenals, spleen, i don't really recall all what else, but had thought that it could also lead to ambious genitalia, then again that might have to do with the adrenal's or other things being affected.

If you can shed some light, i think alot of us could use some more information on what Des can do to a person.

[QUOTE=corinanicole;15300]Hi, I am a des baby. Was googling the subject and found this place. I believe DES plays a role behind my gender issues.

Have you checked out "DESaction.org" ? there really good with the medical and legal stuff, but i noticed that they really didn't offer support (emotional) groups. I became interested when i had a house party for NE intersexed individuals, and in walked "boardwalk angel" . I haven't heard from her since and i'm worried.

I hope you don't mind if we learn together. though BWA inspired this forum, i know there are other DES babies here.....

now if only they would start posting

I will ask my friend what the correct spelling is the next time I see him. He is a bio Chemist so he would know. In fact it is him who really opened my eyes to just how bad DES and other endocrine disruptors are.

DES may not be on the market any more but there is still some bad stuff out there creating just as many problems with the unborn. I will have to start digging up the stuff I have researched on the issue and post it.

But for now I must run. I will check back later.

Curiousity?

was wondering how old you are Corinanicole, thought Des was banned in 1971-1972 or somewhere around there here in the U.S. I don't know if it was still used in other countries at a later date. Kinda had me curious though about your age.
